Long-term care comparative studies by agent-based simulation: A Computational Framework and a Case Study
Simulating the influence of Facebook fan pages on individual attitudes toward vaccination using agent‐based modelling
The anti‐vaccination movement is dangerous because of its influence on vaccine hesitancy. Nowadays, social media platforms become significant sources of anti‐vaccination information; therefore, combating their proliferation needs to be addressed by the relevant authorities. Previous studies suggested two policies to mitigate the negative influence of anti‐vaccination information online: attaching caution banners from healthcare authorities and en…
An Initial Analysis of the Effects of a Long-Term Care Insurance on Equity and Efficiency: A Case Study of Qingdao City in China
Finding a suitable mechanism to finance long-term care (LTC) is a pressing policy concern for many countries. Using Qingdao city in China as a case study, this article presents an initial assessment of a newly piloted LTC insurance by evaluating its effects on equity and efficiency in financing. Drawing data from 47 in-depth interviews conducted in 2016, this study found that there remain sizable disparities in financial burden among insurance pa…
Closed-mindedness and insulation in groupthink: Their Effects and the Devil’s Advocacy as a Preventive Measure
This paper’s purpose is to clarify groupthink phenomena and to assess the devil’s advocacy as a groupthink prevention measure. An agent-based model is presented to formalize group closed-mindedness and insulation in a group decision making setting. The model was validated by showing that groupthink results in the decision with low quality and the group’s inability to explore more alternatives. Besides that, the devil’s advocacy also formulated in…
Care providers, access to care, and the Long-term Care Nursing Insurance in China: An agent-based simulation
China piloted a publicly funded Long-term Care Nursing Insurance (LTCNI) with an aim to improve access to long-term care (LTC) for older people in China in 2012. Existing studies showed that the scheme has been successful in meeting some goals, but little is known on how the availability, price and quality of the local care providers affect access to care. Using an Agent-based Modelling approach, this paper simulates the effects of the LTCNI on a…
