  • Automated starch granule classification using high-throughput microscopy and machine learning

  • A multi-proxy study of changing environmental conditions in a Younger Dryas sequence in southwestern Manitoba, Canada

    Open Access•Allen West, James P Kennett et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

A multi-proxy study of changing environmental conditions in a Younger Dryas sequence in southwestern Manitoba, Canada: Response to comments by Breslawski et al., Quaternary Research Volume 94, 210–211 - Volume 94

  • A multi-proxy study of changing environmental conditions in a Younger Dryas sequence in southwestern Manitoba, Canada, and evidence for an extraterrestrial event

    Open Access•James T Teller, James Teller et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

Multi-proxy analyses of a sequence spanning the Younger Dryas (YD) in the Glacial Lake Hind basin of Manitoba provides insight into regional paleohydrology and paleovegetation of meltwater rivers and lakes spanning >4000 yr; the sequence is controlled by 25 new accelerator mass spectrometry ages. This lake, dammed by the Laurentide Ice Sheet, overflowed into Lake Agassiz. The pre-YD interval records rapid sedimentation from meltwaters that headed…

  • I expected just to walk in, get my tablets and then walk out

    Open Access•Asam Latif, J Waring et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of Health & Illness•2018•Citada por: 1•Referências: 18

Reconfiguration of the healthcare division of labour is becoming increasingly attractive in the context of increased patient demand and resource constraints. One example is the introduction of extended roles for pharmacists to provide patients additional support to manage their medicines, while also reducing work pressures experienced by other health professionals. Understanding how such policies are framed by those delivering and receiving care …

  • Pastoral power in the community pharmacy

  • Northernmost Precontact Maize in North America

    Open Access•Matthew Boyd, Matt Boyd et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2010•Citada por: 9•Referências: 36

Corn (Zea mays ssp. mays) was a key economic plant in the Americas, yet little information exists on the northern limit of maize consumption before European contact. Based on the analysis of carbonized food residue on pottery for plant microfossils (phytoliths and starch granules) from 58 precontact archaeological sites, we report the first evidence of maize consumption in the subarctic boreal forest. Recovery of maize microfossils from several w…

  • Identification of Anthropogenic Burning in the Paleoecological Record of the Northern Prairies

Matthew Boyd, Matt Boyd•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•2002•Citada por: 8

Despite recent interest in the North American fire record, paleoecological evidence for the deliberate burning of grassland by hunter–gatherers has not previously been sought. Through the analysis of grass phytoliths preserved in a sequence of buried soil horizons in the Lauder Sandhills, southwestern Manitoba, Canada, this article reconstructs a local grassland fire record for the past 5,000 years. I propose that an apparent peak in fire frequen…

  • Interdependence and Power

    Matthew Boyd, Matt Boyd•ARTICLE•Plains Anthropologist•1998•Citada por: 6•Referências: 3

In recent years, socioeconomic relations between horticulturists and hunter-gatherers have received greater attention in the archaeological literature. These relations have been probed primarily from theoretical perspectives that emphasize adaptation and dietary optimization. For example, the exchange of bison meat for maize between hunters and farmers is seen as an efficient means of acquiring protein in otherwise carbohydrate-rich diets, and ca…
