INTRODUCTION: Research to understand the role of social media use (SMU) in explaining deteriorating adolescent mental health has been limited by broad, nonspecific measures of social media use, specifically 'time spent on social media'. These measures provide insufficient detail to capture specific risk and protective factors to users. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review of observational and experimental studies of the relationship between non…
Differences across intersecting racial, ethnic, and gender identity in the spatiotemporal patterning of suicide clusters in the US from 2005-2020
Suicide rates and spatial clusters have increased since 2005, with distinct patterning between sociodemographic groups. The identification of specific communities that may be at disproportional risk for suicide highlight opportunities to tailor individual- and population-level prevention efforts in emerging high-risk groups

Neighborhood greenspace and cognition
Cohort effects on gender differences in alcohol use in the United States
Gender differences in binge drinking have converged in recent cohorts, due in part to faster decreases in consumption among boys in adolescence, and faster increases in consumption among women in young to middle adulthood. Changes in education and occupation explain a portion, but not all, of these differences; the present study examines how attitudes about gender, religion and family additionally explain cohort effects in binge drinking by sex. …
Association of neighborhood physical activity opportunities with incident cardiovascular disease in the Cardiovascular Health Study
Relationship of trauma exposure and PTSD to cigarette smoking prevalence, frequency, and quantity
Trauma or PTSD may each serve as a clinical indicator of increased risk of cigarette smoking-related health problems and prompt the implementation of targeted interventions to reduce the harms of smoking. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
Changes in the depression gender gap from 1992 to 2014
Social sequencing to determine patterns in health and work-family trajectories for U.S. women, 1968–2013
Mortality rates vary by work-family trajectories, but timing of childbearing does not meaningfully impact risk among women in this population, likely because few of the women who were married and had children also worked full-time. Household income has some mediating effect among those at highest risk of early mortality
Efficiency or equity? Simulating the impact of high-risk and population intervention strategies for the prevention of disease
Maximizing both efficiency and equity are core considerations for population health. These considerations can result in tension in population health science as we seek to improve overall population health while achieving equitable health distributions within populations. Limited work has explored empirically the consequences of different population health intervention strategies on the burden of disease and on within- and between-group difference…
