Approaches to Community Nursing Research Partnerships
Every community is unique and has special strengths and health-related needs, such that a community-based participatory research partnership cannot be formed and implemented in a predetermined, step-by-step manner. In this article, we describe how the Community Partnership Model (CPM), designed to allow flexible movement back and forth through all action phases, can be adapted to a variety of communities. Originally developed for nursing practice…
Conceptualizing Longitudinal Mixed Methods Designs
Longitudinal research is well suited for investigating phenomena that change over time. With the growing acceptance of mixed methods, researchers are combining qualitative and quantitative approaches within longitudinal research. However, little attention has been paid to how researchers integrate longitudinal mixed methods databases. The purpose of this methodological review was to describe how researchers combine mixed methods and longitudinal …
Using Culturally Competent Community-Based Participatory Research With Older Diabetic Chinese Americans
The purpose of this article is to share culturally competent strategies and lessons learned from a study that used a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach with older adult diabetic Chinese Americans. This approach was essential to gain insight into the health beliefs, attitudes, and practices of selected communities. The vulnerable population conceptual model (VPCM) provided a framework for the study. The CBPR, a collaborative re…
