  • Neighbourhood exposure to fast-food and sit-down restaurants and estimated 24-hour urinary sodium excretion

Open Access•Marion Tharrey, Olivier Klein et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2025

Objective: Increased out-of-home consumption may elevate sodium (Na) intake, but self-reported dietary assessments limit evidence. This study explored associations between neighbourhood exposure to fast-food and sit-down restaurants and estimated 24-hour urinary Na excretion. Design: A cross-sectional analysis from the ORISCAV-LUX 2 study (2016–2017). 24-hour urinary Na was estimated from a morning spot urine sample using the INTERSALT formula. S…

  • Local retail food environment exposure and diet quality in rural and urban adults

    Open Access•Marion Tharrey, Torsten Bohn et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Place•2024•References: 14

Despite growing interest in understanding how food environments shape dietary behaviors, European longitudinal evidence is scarce. We aimed to investigate the associations of 9-year average and change in exposure to local retail food environments with the diet quality of residents in Luxembourg. We used data from 566 adults enrolled in both waves of the nationwide ORISCAV-LUX study (2007-2017). Dietary quality was assessed by the Diet Quality Ind…

  • Relationship between multimorbidity, functional limitation, and quality of life among middle-aged and older adults

Open Access•Piotr Wilk, María Ruiz‐castell et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2023

Using novel methodological techniques, this study contributes to a better understanding of the longitudinal relationship between functional limitation and quality of life among individuals with and without multimorbidity and how this relationship changes across the life course. Our findings suggest that lowering the risk of having multimorbidity can decrease functional limitation and increase quality of life

  • Nine-year exposure to residential greenness and the risk of metabolic syndrome among Luxembourgish adults

    Open Access•Marion Tharrey, Olivier Klein et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Place•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Growing evidence shows a beneficial effect of exposure to greenspace on cardiometabolic health, although limited by the cross-sectional design of most studies. This study examined the long-term associations of residential greenness exposure with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and MetS components within the ORISCAV-LUX study (Wave 1: 2007-2009, Wave 2: 2016-2017, n = 395 adults). Objective exposure to residential greenness was measured in both waves by…

  • Urban densification over 9 years and change in the metabolic syndrome

    Open Access•Marion Tharrey, L Malisoux et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 57

A growing body of evidence suggests that urban densification may be protective against obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiometabolic diseases, yet studies on how built environmental features relate to metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components are scarce. This longitudinal study examines the associations of baseline urban density and densification over 9 years with MetS and MetS components, among 510 participants enrolled in both waves of the O…
