Exploring Treatment Completion and Participant Feedback in an Adapted Intervention among Incarcerated Men with Mental Illness
Treatment completion in interventions within correctional settings is challenging both generally and for people with mental illness (MI). Few studies have explored treatment completion alongside feedback from this population. We examined the rates of treatment completion alongside participant feedback to explore how participant feedback can improve treatment completion. Mixed-methods were used to examine treatment completion rates and clinical ch…
An evaluation framework for predictive models of neighbourhood change with applications to predicting residential sales in Buffalo, NY
New data and technologies, in particular machine learning, may make it possible to forecast neighbourhood change. Doing so may help, for example, to prevent the negative impacts of gentrification on marginalised communities. However, predictive models of neighbourhood change face four challenges: accuracy (are they right?), granularity (are they right at spatial or temporal scales that actually matter for a policy response?), bias (are they equit…
Medical Stress and Fear of Death and Dying in a Medical Patient Population
We explored the relationship between medical illness-related stress and fear of death and dying in a population of individuals with self-reported medical illnesses. Medically ill participants identified their level of stress related to their medical condition, their level of fear of death and dying, and what treatments they would most prefer for addressing any fear of death and dying as well as their medical illness-related stress. Participants' …
Media habits and their impact on media platform selection for information use
Media selection processes for current information are part of recipients' daily routine. As media choices take place repeatedly, they are most likely (at least partly) habitdriven. This paper focuses on two aspects: First, based on an elaborate definition of media habits as mental scripts automatically activated, we argue that habits are important determinants of the frequency of media platform selection for information purposes. Second, we diffe…
Looking Back on the Long-Term Fostering and Adoption of Children with Harmful Sexual Behaviours
The experiences of carers of children and young people with harmful sexual behaviours have been the subject of little research to date. Consequently, and as part of a larger follow-up study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine adoptive or foster-carers who had had such children and young people placed with them during the 1990s. The looked after children were white and male and had come from troubled and often abusive backgrounds.…
Lost without a Trace? Social Networking and Social Research with a Hardto-Reach Population
This paper describes the methodological approaches and challenges associated with tracing and contacting former social welfare service users in the course of long-term outcome research. Historical case file data were analysed on 117 ‘hard to reach’ children and young people identified as having behavioural problems, including sexual behavioural problems. Various publicly available internet and social network resources were used to try and trace t…

France and the Holy Land
This is a stimulating volume of essays that sets out to explore the cultural development of the Latin East in the decades of Frankish rule in the Holy Land prior to the fall of Acre in 1291. These interdisciplinary papers examine the subject from historical, art historical, literary and archaeological perspectives. The majority of the Frankish settlers in the Levant originated from France and this collection shows how their cultural heritage was …

State Regulation and the Hazards of Milk, 1900-1939
This examination of milk safety before the Second World War focuses on the manner in which government regulation was shaped by the agricultural lobby, acting through the Ministry of Agriculture. Dairy farmers used their market strength to resist the introduction of many regulations which were regarded as desirable and even essential from a public health perspective. These included compulsory pasteurization, favoured by the Ministry of Health and …
