The article offers a comparative study of the bunchuk and tug/süld – symbolic objects that, despite their formal similarities, underwent complex processes of diffusion across Eurasia. Originating from the nomadic traditions of Central and Eastern Asia, these symbols were later adapted into military cultures of Eastern Europe, highlighting the significance of long-term cultural transmission. The site of the former Soviet military base changed after the withdrawal of the Soviet army in 1991–1993 is discussed in the article. The analysis concerns the third former military bases in Borne Sulinowo (Poland), Milovice (Czech Republic) and the former missile bases near Gulbene (Latvia) and three fieldworks have been taken in the 2005–2020 and finished because of the coronavirus pandemic. Spaces of Modernity: Ethnic Shows in Poznań, 1879–1914
The focus of this article is on the ethnic shows organized in Poznań, a middle-sized European city that was part of the network of German Völkerschauen between 1879 and 1914.
