Do demographic correlates of ethical perceptions generalise to non‐American samples: A study of managers in India
Investigates perceived ethical behaviour by surveying 150 Indian managers, recognizing that perceived ethicality of behaviour differs depending on an individual’s life experience and developed values. Hypothesizes that people over 40, women, and more highly educated people will interpret ethical business practice more stringently. Records the methodology used, including the demographic breakdown of the sample group. Uses Likert scales and t‐tests…

Describes how the survey was carried out (a questionnaire measured on a four-poin…

Does Use of Student Samples Affect Results of Studies in Cross-Cultural Training? A Meta-Analysis
A 1992 meta-analysis by Deshpande and Viswesvaran of studies of cross-cultural training using a combination of both students' and nonstudents' data indicated that cross-cultural training allows participants to adjust more rapidly to a new culture. But this research did not examine the equivalence of samples of students and nonstudents with respect to effects of cross-cultural training. Meta-analysis indicated that the use of student samples may u…
Promotion Decisions by Managers: A Dependency Perspective
Promotion decisions of 197 managers (63 males, 134 females) from a large not-for-profit organization were investigated using a dependency perspective. Both performance level and organizational connections of a subordinate influenced promotion decisions. Subordinate influence attempts had an impact on promotion recommendations only when a manager was aware of a subordinate's organizational connections. Potential subordinate turnover did not influe…

Subjects were asked to respond to packages that varied in terms of performance of subordinates, specialized skills/expertise of subordinates, difficulty in replacing the subordinates, possibility of potential subordinate turnover, and current salary of subordinat…
