Origins and interactions of Neolithic populations from Liguria (NW Italy): A craniofacial morphometric study
The Neolithic transition in Europe, marked by the shift from foraging to farming, has traditionally been explained through models of either cultural or demic diffusion. However, emerging evidence suggests more complex, regionally specific interactions between incoming farmers and local foragers. In Liguria, a coastal region in northwestern Italy, the Neolithic adoption appears later than in southern regions, and the scarcity of Mesolithic sites r…
Inferences on Sicilian Mesolithic subsistence patterns from cross-sectional geometry and entheseal changes
New Biological Data on a Gravettian Humerus from the Cussac Cave (Dordogne, France)
This article reports on a complete left human humerus from the Cussac Cave (Dordogne, France), dating to the Gravettian, or Mid-Upper Palaeolithic. This humerus is characterised by a very marked retroversion, significant intracortical porosity, an unusual morphology and orientation of the medial epicondyle, and a marked depression at the bottom of the olecranon fossa. These morphological features could be related to mechanical stimuli, but this i…

New data on the paleobiology of the Gravettian individual L2A from Cussac cave (Dordogne, France) through a virtual approach
Palaeopathological diagnosis of spondyloarthropathies: Insights from the biomedical literature
In palaeopathology, the diagnosis of spondyloarthropathies traditionally relies on the association of three types of skeletal lesions: erosive and proliferative modifications of the sacroiliac joint, formation of vertebral syndesmophytes and erosive and proliferative changes in peripheral joints. These conditions can therefore be recognised only in well-preserved skeletons that exhibit the most typical pattern of lesions. In order to develop addi…
