  • "Celts" up the Alps. Patterns of territorial mobility and funerary variability in Switzerland during the Late Iron Age

Open Access•Z Laffranchi, Vanessa Haussener et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2025•Referências: 13

The European Late Iron Age (ca. 5th-1st centuries BCE) is characterized by significant economic, social, and cultural transformations, including the development and intensification of cultural and economic networks. These features make the last centuries BCE relevant for the study of human territorial mobility and its demographic and social correlates. In this study, we investigate the frequency and nature of human mobility during the Late Iron A…

  • Archaeological questions and genetic answers

Open Access•A Paladin, Stefania Zingale et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2023•Referências: 2

In 2010, a detailed anthropological study regarding two adult individuals and one foetus-newborn buried in a Copper Age (ca. 3000–2700 cal. BC) multiple grave site found in Ora/Auer in the eastern Italian Alps (Alto Adige/ Südtirol) was published. This exceptional archaeological finding provides a rare insight into an inhumation prehistoric ritual discovered within a natural alpine rock shelter. Due to the presence of an infant in the grave, the …

  • Mitogenomic diversity and stable isotopes provide insights into the maternal genetic history, mobility patterns, and diet of early medieval individuals from the Eastern Italian Alps

    Open Access•Coia, Valentina Coia et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2022•Citada por: 1•Referências: 80

The Eastern Italian Alps (South Tyrol) is a connection area between continental Italy and the northern Alps. Various local factors, such as the heterogeneous environment, complex historical events, and different mobility patterns, may have influenced the genetic makeup of early medieval alpine groups. However, no ancient genetic data from these groups are currently available. This study provides a first picture of the ancient mitochondrial DNA (m…

  • Dietary and Weaning Habits of the Roman Community of Quarto Cappello del Prete (Rome, 1st-3 rd Century CE)

    F De Angelis, Virginia Veltre et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2020•Citada por: 4•Referências: 10

This paper aims to provide the isotopic characterization of the diet consumed by people buried in a graveyard of the Imperial Rome Suburbium (1st–3rd centuries CE), where numerous children were buried. A sample of 50 human remains from Quarto Cappello del Prete was selected for carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis. Published data related to coeval faunal remains set the baseline of the diet. The results for humans were integrated with prev…

  • Are natural scientists more masculine than humanists? The association patterns between 2D

Sarah Kainz, Jakob Weitzer et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2018•Citada por: 1

0.037). Female scientists and female humanists however, did not differ significantly in 2D:4D ratio. Both showed a typical female 2D:4D ratio. This was also true of male humanists. Consequently low prenatal androgen exposure may be associated with the choice of humanities among male students.
