  • A factual and perceptional framework for assessing diversity effects of online recommender systems

    Open Access•Christian Matt, Thomas He et al.•ARTICLE•Internet Research•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 3

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of online recommender systems (RS) on three types of diversity: algorithmic recommendation diversity, perceived recommendation diversity and sales diversity. The analysis distinguishes different recommendation algorithms and shows whether user perceptions match the actual effects of RS on sales. Design/methodology/approach An online experiment was conducted using a realistic shop design,…

  • Petrological characterisation of ‘alabaster’ from the Marib province in Yemen and its use as an ornamental stone in Sabaean culture

    Open Access•Christian Weiß, D′arne O′Neill et al.•ARTICLE•Arabian archaeology and epigraphy•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 1

‘Yemen alabaster’, a calcareous sinter, is a unique building and ornamental stone of the Sabaean culture ( c. 1000 BC to 100 AD). This study characterises the quarries and describes the facies of their stones. Through thin sections, luminescence microscopy and geochemical analyses, ‘Yemen alabaster’ can be classified and assigned a quarry source. The stone is a calcareous sinter related to volcanism in the Marib province. It can be divided into s…

  • Qadhat-a comparative study of ancient and new lime mortar from the Marib province/Yemen

    Open Access•Christian Weiß, Iris Gerlach•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 9

Qadhat is the name for a lime mortar in Southern Arabia. Its usage has a long tradition. This work describes physical and mineralogical properties of ancient, historical and new samples, which seem to have been produced the same way. XRD, thin sections and SEM analyses show the similarity of the material. It consists of aggregates of volcanic material that are rich in volcanic glass and lime as binder. The production process includes several hour…

  • Die Petrografie himyarischer Keramik vom Jabal al ‘Awd, Jemen

    Open Access•Janine Zech, Christian Weiß•ARTICLE•Arabian archaeology and epigraphy•2008•References: 3

Early Himyarite ceramics (first century BC–third century AD) from the Jabal al ‘Awd in Yemen are classified by visual criteria into a number of ware groups. Following classification the ceramics were investigated with petrologic methods (porosity and density). Mineralogical and physical properties were determined from thin sections according to cathodo‐luminescence spectra. The ceramics are divided into six ware groups, each of which has distinct…
