  • Using Fire for Woodworking: An Experimental Exploration of Use-Wear on Lithic Tools

Mariel Bencomo, Paula Jardón et al.•ARTICLE•Lithic Technology•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 19

Throughout prehistoric times, woodworking was an essential activity. We know this because of the existence of preserved wooden objects, as well as the use-wear traces recorded on lithic tools. In general terms, functional studies and experimental programs have aimed to analyze and understand the use-wear traces generated by green and dry wood. However, some of the wood remains preserved across time show signs of thermal alteration caused by fire.…

  • Use-wear analysis applied in a dissected palimpsest at the Middle Palaeolithic site of El Salt (eastern Iberia): Working With Lithic Tools in a Narrow Timescale

    Open Access•Mariel Bencomo, A Mayor et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 47

Use-wear analyses are very useful to increase knowledge about the economic and subsistence dynamics carried out by Neanderthals. In general terms, functional results traditionally came from the analysis of tools belonging to stratigraphic units whose timescale refers to geological time. This is due to the fact that many Neanderthal sites are palimpsests of reiterated occupations over time, which must be dissected to approach us to human timescale…

In the Iberian Mediterranean region it is difficult to find studies dedicated to the percutors-touchers used in the lithic production of the Epipalaeolithic. This work presents the study of 11 small pebbles located in caves of Santa Maira (Castell de Castells, Alicante), which were recovered in the Epipaleolithic levels, dated between 13445 and 10195 years bp. These are rounded, flattened and elongated pebbles, in which various marks have been id…

  • The role of the classroom’s images. Study of visual culture at three schools

Amparo Alonso Sanz, Paula Jardón et al.•ARTICLE•Visual Studies•2019

This research forms part of the project titled: ‘Aesthetic quality research of three Valencian schools’, that analyses the effects in detail that images displayed in schools have, as a variable in evaluating educational quality. Through applying Arts Based Educational Research, images displayed on 29 classroom walls in three schools were photographed and analysed based upon their function; they were subsequently classified as educational images, …

  • Understanding woodworking in Paleolithic times by means of use-wear analysis

Open Access•David Quixal Santos, Paula Jardón Giner•ARTICLE•Lucentum•2016

    Open Access•Paula Jardón Giner, Gilbert Pion et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016•Cited by: 5•References: 14

Open Access•A Eixea, Beatriz Giner et al.•ARTICLE•Espacio Tiempo y Forma Serie I…•2015•Cited by: 4•References: 33
