  • Radiocarbon Dating of Lime Mortar to Determine the Age of Three Visigothic and Early Medieval Buildings of Controversial Age in the Northern Iberian Peninsula

Open Access•Carmen Alonso Fernández, Luis Ángel Ortega Cuesta et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2025•References: 1

The age of the first construction of the churches of Nuestra Señora de las Viñas (Quintanilla de las Viñas, Burgos), Santa María de Rute (Ventas Blancas, La Rioja), and San Juan Bautista (Barbadillo del Mercado, Burgos) of the northern Iberian Peninsula has been subject to debate for decades. Some scholars date the construction of the churches to the Visigothic period (6th and 7th centuries), while others attribute them to the early Middle Ages (…

  • Glazed Pottery Throughout the Middle and Modern Ages in Northern Spain

Open Access•Ainhoa Alonso Olazabal, Juan Antonio Quirós Castillo et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2025•References: 9

A total of forty samples of medieval and modern glazed pottery from northern Spain were studied. Chemical and microstructural analyses of the glazes were performed by scanning electron microscopy coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), while the chemical composition of the pottery bodies and slips were determined by X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). The glazes studied come from the Santa Barbara Hill site (Tudela), the Treviño Castle sit…

  • Contribution of EBSD for the Microstructural Study of Archaeological Iron Alloy Artefacts from the Archaeological Site of Loiola (Biscay, Northern Spain)

Open Access•Céline Remazeilles, María Cruz Zuluaga Ibargallartu et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 11

Iron palaeometallurgy was carried out on three artefacts, classified as nails and excavated from the archaeological site of Loiola (La Arboleda, Biscay, northern Spain), to investigate Roman manufacturing techniques. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) coupled with Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM) and micro-Raman spectroscopy were used to obtain elemental composition and structural characterization of mineral phases. Metallurgic…

  • Social structuration in medieval rural society based on stable isotope analysis of dietary habits and mobility patterns

Open Access•Iranzu Guede, María Cruz Zuluaga Ibargallartu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 17

  • Isotopic evidence for the reconstruction of diet and mobility during village formation in the Early Middle Ages

Open Access•Iranzu Guede, Luis Angel Ortega et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2018•Cited by: 14•References: 47

Strontium, carbon, and nitrogen isotopes of human bone and tooth remains have been used to reconstruct residential mobility and diet of early medieval populations at Las Gobas from the sixth to eleventh centuries. Most non-local individuals correspond to the tenth to eleventh centuries and were mostly women and infants. This residential mobility coincided with the formation of Laño village and the abandonment of artificial cave settlement. Carbon…

  • Archaeometry of Roman Aquitania-Tarraconensis coarse ware pottery from the northern Iberian Peninsula and southern Aquitania

  • Investigation of Upper Palaeolithic adhesive residues from Cueva Morín, Northern Spain

Open Access•Marcel Bradtmöller, Alfredo Sarmiento et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2016•Cited by: 9•References: 16

  • Carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes of bone collagen of large herbivores from the Late Pleistocene Kiputz IX cave site (Gipuzkoa, north Iberian Peninsula) for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction

    Open Access•Jone Castaños, Maria Cruz Zuluaga et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013•Cited by: 8•References: 9
