  • The Association of Toxoplasma gondii IgG and Liver Injury in US Adults

Open Access•Amani Babekir, Sayed Mostafa et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

    T. gondii IgG+ antibody was significantly associated with liver injury biomarkers (ALT, AST, GGT, and ALP) and an increased risk of CLD and NAFLD. Moreover, the association of Toxoplasma with CLD was more evident in specific occupations where the prevalence of Toxoplasma was high. The findings of this study provide insight into utilizing liver biomarkers and US-FLI to assess the health complications of Toxoplasma when imaging tests are not access…

  • Anarchism

Ekaterina Chertkovskaya, Konstantin Stoborod et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Anarchism•2018

Utilising Michael Freeden's morphological (or conceptual) approach to the study of ideologies, this book applies this approach too the study of anarchist ideology. The volume comprising 15 (chapters) and an introduction – authored by a handpicked group of established and rising scholars – investigates how anarchists often seek to sharpen their message and struggle to determine what ideas and actions are central to their identity. This book examin…

  • Hakim Bey and Ontological Anarchism

Leonard Williams•ARTICLE•Journal for the Study of Radicalism•2010

Hakim Bey and Ontological Anarchism Leonard Williams At the most basic level, anarchism is fundamentally opposed to the existence of the state and the authority relations that the state codifies, legitimates, or represents.1 Although anarchism has been associated primarily with political and social movements of the nineteenth century, it has recently moved to the center of attention for both activists and theorists alike.2 Embracing domains beyon…

  • Anarchism Revived

    Leonard Williams•ARTICLE•New Political Science•2007•Cited by: 8

Long regarded as a dated school of political thought, anarchism has been rejuvenated in the last decade or so. From anarcho-punk bands putting out “noise music” to bands of young people sporting black attire and the circle-A, its cultural symbols are widely present. Self-identified “anarchists” have often taken center stage at protests directed at major political and financial institutions. My central purpose in this article is to explore the var…

  • Abundance, lack, and identity

    Leonard Williams•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Ideologies•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 3

Discussions of the nature of identity have produced at least two theoretical debates, described here as an ontological debate and a formative one. The first debate occurs between theorists who propose an ontology of ‘abundance’ (e.g. William Connolly) and theorists of an ontology of ‘lack’ (e.g. Ernesto Laclau). The second debate occurs between those who hold that identity is rooted in voluntaristic choice (e.g. Laclau) and those who assert that …

  • Religion and Motion Pictures' Effects on Reversing Suicidal Intentions

Hani Raoul Khouzam, Leonard Williams et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2003

Case studies of two veterans contemplating suicide are described. Their suicidal intentions subsided as a result of a rekindling of their Christian faith. Although their Christian beliefs were awakened following their attendance at a motion picture, they both attributed the remission of their suicidal intentions to the practices of their Christian faith in their lives. Despite the favorable outcome, these findings are not generalizable to other c…

Combining lectures and discussions with experiential work in the computer lab, the course covered topics ranging from the history and ontology of the Internet to the governmental presence and political activity now found on the World Wide Web. Students found the course exciting because it let them d…

  • Althusser on Ideology

    Leonard Williams•ARTICLE•New Political Science•1993•Cited by: 1•References: 8

Given the continued significance of ideology as a social and political phenomenon, political science must consider the important contributions made to ideology theory made over the last thirty years by Louis Althusser. In this essay, I offer a critical exegesis of Althusser's views, focusing on the concept of reading, on the various conceptions of ideology held by Althusser, on the distinction Althusser made between ideology and science, and on h…

  • Ideological parallels between the New Left and the New Right

    Open Access•Leonard Williams•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•1987

Antagonistic ideologies often exhibit parallels of thought and action. New Left and New Right ideologies, for example, both attack the bureaucratization of society and an inequality of social and political power. And both the New Left and the New Right call for an end to pervasive alienation and for the re-creation of a genuine community. These ideologies then show striking similarities in their critiques of American society and in their preferre…
