The term “youth culture” is generally linked with ideas of renewal, breaking with traditional norms and values, opposition and rebellion. This conception stems from the fact that, in western societies, “youth” is first and foremost associated with adolescence and puberty conflicts. The Fulbe Wodaabe from Central Niger - like other nomadic pastoralists - seem to be highly resistant to the influence of global consumer goods, the consumption of modern products being more or less confined to satisfying practical needs.
