  • Implications of language use in posttraumatic nightmares on psychological symptoms

Caitlin Paquet, Chelsea M Cogan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

These results suggest that language use in nightmares may reveal important information about underlying cognitive and emotional processes that may help understand the etiology and maintenance of PTSD symptoms, as well as support PTNMs as co-occurring symptoms requiring targeted treatment, and not merely secondary symptoms of PTSD. • Text analysis of veteran nightmare scripts in a cognitive-behavioral nightmare treatment

    Open Access•Matthew D Crowley, Joanne L Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2022

  • Sexual violence and suicide risk in the transgender population

    Chelsea M Cogan, James A Scholl et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology and Sexuality•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 7

The transgender population is at increased risk for mental and physical health disorders. Previous research indicates these disparities exist as a result of exposure to disproportionately more adverse life events, including multiple forms of violence, and hostile and unaccepting social environments. Minority stress theory posits that exposure to unique types of stressors (i.e. distal stressors and proximal stressors), in addition to the stress ex…

  • A quantitative text analysis approach to describing posttrauma nightmares in a treatment-seeking population

Caitlin Paquet, Chelsea M Cogan et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2020•References: 7

  • Nightmares as a unique predictor of suicide risk in a transgender and gender diverse sample

Shianne J Andrews, Shianne J Andrew et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2020

  • Predictors of treatment noninitiation, dropout, and response for cognitive behavioral therapy for trauma nightmares

    Open Access•Katherine E Miller, Rachel L Micol et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2018

Baseline symptom severity on constructs targeted in treatment are the best indicators of response. Treatment initiation appears to be more significant than dropout. Identifying reasons for treatment noninitiation is needed to maximize engagement. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Pilot study

    Open Access•Katherine E Miller, Joanne L Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2018

  • An examination of the test–retest reliability of the ACE-SQ in a sample of college athletes

Danielle C Zanotti, Emily Kaier et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2017

These findings suggest that further research is needed on the psychometric properties of this questionnaire in different age populations. (PsycINFO Database Record

  • Randomized controlled trial to dismantle exposure, relaxation, and rescripting therapy (ERRT) for trauma-related nightmares

Kristi E Pruiksma, Christopher C Cranston et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2016

Findings indicate that ERRT with and without nightmare exposure and rescripting can significantly alleviate nightmares and related distress. The addition of nightmare exposure and rescription did not contribute incrementally to outcomes in this sample. It is possible that the dose of exposure was not sufficient to result in group differences or that the treatment components included in both conditions (i.e., psychoeducation about trauma, nightmar…

  • Efficacy of a brief treatment for nightmares and sleep disturbances for veterans

Noelle E Balliett, Joanne L Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2015

Nightmares and sleep disturbances are common complaints among military Veterans (Plumb & Zelman, 2009) and may be difficult to eradicate (Forbes, Phelps, & McHugh, 2001). A treatment protocol (Exposure, Relaxation, and Rescription Therapy [ERRT]) targeting nightmares and sleep disturbances, which has been used effectively in civilian populations, was adapted for the military (ERRT-M). A pilot study evaluated the efficacy of ERRT-M in improving sl…

  • A comparison of lifelong and posttrauma nightmares in a civilian trauma sample

    Joanne L Davis, Kristi E Pruiksma et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 1

Nightmares and sleep disturbances are thought to play a key role in the development of posttrauma problems. Research efforts have increased in an attempt to understand this association. The present study examined differences in nightmare characteristics, related psychopathology, treatment outcome, and trauma history among trauma-exposed individuals whose nightmares began before a traumatic event and those whose nightmares began after a traumatic …

Lisa A Paul, Matt J Gray et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2009

  • Characteristics of chronic nightmares in a trauma-exposed treatment-seeking sample

Joanne L Davis, Patricia Byrd et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2007•Cited by: 4•References: 3

Chronic nightmares pose a significant problem for many individuals affected by trauma. The present study attempts to extend current knowledge on the nature, characteristics, and associated sequelae of chronic nightmares. • Prevention of sexual and physical assault toward women

    Open Access•Thomas L Jackson, Joanne L Davis•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•2000•References: 11

This article presents a sexual and physical violence prevention program designed for college student athletes. Implications for prevention programs designed for high-risk groups and athletes in particular are presented as are the components and philosophy felt necessary for such programs. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
