  • Relationship between Remittance and Household Expenditure in Benin

Open Access•Martial Houessou, Wannes Slosse et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2025

This study examines the short- and long-run relationship between remittance and Benin household expenditure. We analysed 45 years of time series data, from 1974 to 2019, from the World Bank Open data repository using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) to cointegration model. The findings suggest no significant long-run relationship between remittance receipts and household expenditure. However, the short-run relationship is positive and si…

This paper estimates the regional effects of high-speed broadband coverage on economic growth in a panel of 1348 regions across all European Union Member States between 2011 and 2018. We distinguish between different connectivity speed levels by aggregating the available regional data across all existing broadband technologies, and investigate how regional differences in the contribution of broadband coverage to real economic growth can quantitat…

  • The socio‐economic impact of certification schemes in conflict‐affected regions

Open Access•Wannes Slosse, Jeroen Buysse et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Public and Cooperative…•2022•References: 7

The paper investigates the benefits of certification of cooperatives in conflict‐affected areas. We study whether and how certification may contribute to attenuate the impact of conflicts on the members of coffee cooperatives in the Eastern DRC. We use an inverse probability weighted difference‐in‐difference approach to study data collected between December 2017 and October 2019 from four NGO‐supported cooperatives. Two of these cooperatives got …

  • A farmers’ perspective on farm relocation

David De Pue, Eva Kerselaers et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2021

Farm relocation is applied in numerous spatial planning processes, including the conversion of agricultural land for nature development or urbanization. In this paper, we present the results of a qualitative study on farm relocation. With the aim of identifying main problems and success factors related to farm relocations, we performed in-depth interviews with relocated farmers in the Netherlands and in the region of Flanders, Belgium. To the bes…

    Open Access•Sanctus Niragira, Marijke D’haese et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 16

The global farming conditions have gone profound mutations that steadily increased vulnerability among smallholder farmers. As consequence, rural households have set mechanisms of livelihood adaptation in order to preserve consumption requirements and secure the family living. They define livelihood through a complex system and interactions, taking place across scales that lead to emergent properties and self-regulatory mechanisms. This paper pro…

  • Tracing the impact of market reform on productivity growth of rice at the farm level in Bangladesh

Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Ismat Ara Begum et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy•2014•References: 3

The paper measures the total factor productivity (TFP), technical change (TC) and technical efficiency change (TEC) in rice production, and traces the impact of market reform policies of the 1990s on these indices at the farm level in Bangladesh using a unique cohort of three-period panel data (1987, 2000 and 2004) of 73 farms by applying stochastic production frontier approach. Results reveal that the TFP index has increased by 27% largely due t…

Open Access•Felister Mombo, Leopold Pascal Lusambo et al.•ARTICLE•Forest Policy and Economics•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 4

Payment for Environmental or Ecosystem Services (PES) is among the tools for managing degraded ecosystems and their associated ecological and economic services. Wetlands are an important type of ecosystem, which are highly degradable and accordingly PES become relevant for the sustainable management of wetlands. In Tanzania deforestation in catchment forests has affected many wetlands so much that they cannot adequately contribute to quantity and…

  • The dynamic relationships between world and domestic prices of rice under the regime of agricultural trade liberalization in Bangladesh

Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Jeroen Buysse et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 3

The article examines the dynamic relationship between the world and the domestic market price of rice for Bangladesh given agricultural trade liberalization. A Johansen multivariate cointegration test was used, followed by an error correction model. Results show that there exists a long-run unidirectional equilibrium relationship, meaning that the domestic prices adjust to the world prices but not vice versa. Our results highlight the dependence …

  • The influence of subjective and objective knowledge on attitude, motivations and consumption of organic food

Open Access•Joris Aertsens, Koen Mondelaers et al.•ARTICLE•British Food Journal•2011

Purpose Although the organic market has expanded in recent years, it remains small. Some researchers argue that consumers' lack of knowledge concerning organic food is an important factor slowing down growth. This paper aims to focus on the factors influencing objective and subjective knowledge with regard to organic food production and the relationship between both types of knowledge and consumer attitudes and motivations towards organic food an…
