  • Effects of jump training on power, strength, balance and aerobic performance in non-exercising young adults

Open Access•Markus Gruber, Justin Howaldt et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2026•References: 2

Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases and associated mortality. A high-intensity jump training has proven to be efficient in counteracting inactivity related declines in physical function during two months of bed rest. In the present study, we tested the effects of such a training program under real-life conditions. Seventy-five young adults (38 female, 23 ± 3 years) were randomly assigned to either a training or…

  • On the association of interpersonal trust with right-wing extremist and authoritarian attitudes

Open Access•Ayline Heller, Felix S Wicke et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 5

Right-wing extremism and authoritarianism have been identified as major, if not the major threats to democracy in recent years. The rise of right-wing extremist and populist parties in many democratic countries throughout the world has renewed the interest in identifying the roots and determinants of these anti-democratic attitudes. Even though factors on many levels of analysis (macro-, meso- and micro-level) have been taken into consideration a…

  • Imaging Human Breast Tumours in Different Species: How Human Are They

Open Access•Gabrielle M Siegers, Jeanne Schuler et al.•ARTICLE•Imaginations Journal of…•2020

In a gedankenexperiment, we pose the philosophical question as to whether human breast cancer cells or tissues can still be considered human after transplantation into another species. Alongside medical research images illustrating xenotransplantation, we provide descriptions of how tissues were prepared for imaging. In addition, we discuss how such models enable further understanding of cancer and provide invaluable tools for testing new therapi…

  • Implicit Theories about Athletic Ability Modulate the Effects of If-Then Planning on Performance in a Standardized Endurance Task

Open Access•Anna Hirsch, Maik Bieleke et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Muscular strength has a strong positive impact on cardiometabolic health and fitness. However, building up strength endurance requires effortful exercises. From a health perspective, it is important to understand which psychological strategies help people deal with straining exercise. Self-regulation strategies like if-then planning (also known as implementation intentions) appear particularly promising because they might directly alter how peopl…

  • Something inside me has been set in motion”: Exploring the psychological wellbeing of people engaged in sustainability initiatives

    Open Access•Mirijam Mock, Ines Omann et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 14

The role of sustainability initiatives and niche groups in transitions towards sustainability has received a good deal of attention. However, little is known about the people who make up these groups. This paper discusses their psychological wellbeing – a concept that comprises six elements: self-acceptance, personal growth and development, purpose in life, environmental mastery, autonomy, and positive relations with others. In the study we perfo…

  • Do Some People Need Autonomy More Than Others? Implicit Dispositions Toward Autonomy Moderate the Effects of Felt Autonomy on Well‐Being

Open Access•Jeanne Schuler, Julia Schuler et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2016

The present studies examined whether implicit or explicit autonomy dispositions moderate the relationship between felt autonomy and well‐being. Study 1 ( N = 187 undergraduate students) presents an initial test of the moderator hypothesis by predicting flow experience from the interaction of autonomy need satisfaction and autonomy dispositions. Study 2 ( N = 127 physically inactive persons) used vignettes involving an autonomy (un)supportive coac…

  • Failure cue priming and impaired cognitive performance—analyses of avoidance motivation as a mediator and fear of failure as a moderator

Open Access•Jeanne Schuler, Julia Schuler et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2013•References: 34

The present research investigates whether and how learned symbols for failure reduce task performance. We tested the effect of number priming in two countries with different learning histories for numbers. Priming numbers associated with failure (6 in Germany and 1 in Switzerland) were hypothesized to reduce performance. As expected, in Switzerland, priming with the failure number 1 reduced performance (Study 1), whereas in Germany, priming with …

  • Wanting, having, and needing: Integrating motive disposition theory and self-determination theory

Kennon M Sheldon, Jeanne Schuler et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2011•Cited by: 12

Four studies explored the motivational and experiential dynamics of psychological needs, applying both self-determination theory and motive disposition theory. In all 4 studies, motive dispositions toward achievement and affiliation ("wanting" particular experiences) predicted corresponding feelings of competence and relatedness ("having" those experiences). Competence and relatedness in turn predicted well-being, again indicating that these 2 ex…
