Ceemdan-decomposed time series forecasting of reported hepatitis B cases using KOA-optimised deep learning
Background: Hepatitis B remains a leading notifiable infection in mainland China, with a persistent burden shaped by chronic reservoirs, varied immunity, and shifting surveillance practices. Reliable short- to medium-term forecasts of reported hepatitis B cases are therefore valuable for planning diagnostics, care pathways, antiviral supply, and targeted prevention. Methods: , Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolut…

Urban-rural disparities in Hanoi's café names
This study examines the Linguistic Landscape (LL) of café names in Hanoi, Vietnam, analysing 3,844 establishments across urban and rural districts. Using quantitative methods to investigate language distribution and syntactic patterns in English, French, and Vietnamese, the research reveals urban-rural disparities in language choice and grammatical structures. Urban cafés exhibit higher English prevalence with pre-nominal modification, while rura…
Cross-cohort insights into the association of handgrip strength transitions and burdens with cardiovascular disease risk
Background: Previous studies established handgrip strength (HGS) as a potential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, existing studies focused exclusively on baseline HGS and neglected longitudinal changes in HGS during follow-up. Thus, our aim was to investigate the associations of transitions and dynamic burdens of HGS with incident CVD risk. Methods: We analyzed data from the UK Biobank (UKB), the China Health and Retirement …
Strategic Pathways to Decarbonization Through ESG Innovation in High‐Pollution Industries
As global decarbonization targets tighten and stakeholder scrutiny intensifies, firms in high‐emission industries face growing pressure to translate sustainability commitments into measurable emissions reductions. However, evidence remains limited regarding which ESG dimensions most effectively drive decarbonization and through which mechanisms, particularly in emerging‐economy contexts. This study examines how ESG strategies influence decarboniz…
The Introduction of Chinese Plants into the United States
Since the 19th century, the United States has continuously conducted plant introductions from around the world to expand high-quality germplasm resources for agriculture and horticulture. Beginning in 1898, China—shaped by millennia of agrarian civilization and characterized by exceptionally rich biodiversity—became a key focus of these efforts. To clarify the historical trajectory of the introduction of plants originating in China into the U.S.,…
Constructing datasets to measure geographic variation in bereavement
Geographic variation in mortality across the United States is substantial and well documented.Life expectancy, crude mortality rates, and cause-specific death rates vary across states, counties, and communities, reflecting differences in demographic composition, socioeconomic conditions, healthcare access, and local mortality environments. Large-scale epidemiologic efforts, including national life expectancy analyses, U.S. Burden of Disease studi…
The “guided intervention” model
This qualitative case study investigates how an instructor in a higher education public management course orchestrates generative AI within the “Teacher–Student–AI” triad to foster critical thinking, support students’ ability to independently evaluate AI-generated knowledge, and develop higher-order thinking that transcends AI outputs – collectively referred to as epistemic agency, the capacity to exercise independent evaluative judgment over kno…

A scientometric review of positive youth development research in China
The positive youth development (PYD) approach is increasingly embraced by researchers in China. In this study, we conducted a scientometric analysis of publications retrieved from Web of Science (WOS) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The initial search yielded a total of 2122 PYD-related publications (2006-2025). After screening, 406 publications from the WOS database and 206 from the CNKI database were finally included in the …
Unravelling the role of inflammatory markers in coronary artery disease risk via association, mediation and prediction analyses
Background: Systemic inflammation plays a critical role in coronary artery disease (CAD), yet comprehensive profiling of inflammatory markers and their integration into predictive models remain incompletely characterised. We here sought to identify key CAD-related inflammation markers and construct an integrated inflammatory risk score (IRS) to enhance conventional cardiovascular risk prediction. Methods: Associations between 18 complete blood co…

“I Became a Shadow of Myself”
This qualitative study examines how menstruation structures the lives and futures of married adolescent girls in the Centre for Girls’ Education’s Married Adolescent Safe Spaces (MAS) program in rural northern Nigeria. It addresses a key gap by focusing on married adolescents and treating menstruation as a social process linked to early marriage, schooling, mobility, and sexual and reproductive health, rather than only a hygiene issue. Guided by …

We Are Friends
Previous findings on how to effectively manage work-to-tourism conflict are not applicable for some tourists combining work with tourism such as working holiday tourists (WHTs). Using a framework built on work/family border theory, this study explores how WHTs experience work-to-tourism conflict and manage the conflict to achieve desired travel experiences. Qualitative research was conducted with WHTs in Dali, China. Findings reveal that the WHTs…
The mediating effect of depressive syndrome on the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and chronic kidney diseases among middle-aged and older adults
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is projected to rank among the top five causes of mortality by 2050. In addition to established risk factors, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have recently emerged as significant contributors to health risks, including CKD and depressive syndrome (DS). However, the mechanisms linking ACEs, DS, and CKD remain unclear. This study aims to explore the role of ACEs in CKD development, with a focus on the m…

Sustainable ecological and environmental development is the basis of regional development. The sensitivity classification of the ecological environment is the premise of its spatial distribution for land use planning. In this paper, a fuzzy matter-element model and factor-overlay method were employed to analyze the ecological sensitivity in Yicheng City. Four ecological indicators, including soil condition,, water condition,, atmospheric conditio…

Background: Accumulating evidence has suggested that cell-free DNA (cf-DNA) enters the circulation following cell apoptosis or necrosis. An increased level of cf-DNA fragments has been found in the blood of mice with drug-induced liver damage. We sought to determine the role of cf-DNA in hepatocellular damage. Methods: Plasma samples were collected from 204 patients with hepatitis. The patients were divided into three groups according to liver pa…

Identification and Assessment of Potential Water Quality Impact Factors for Drinking-Water Reservoirs
Various reservoirs have been serving as the most important drinking water sources in Zhejiang Province, China, due to the uneven distribution of precipitation and severe river pollution. Unfortunately, rapid urbanization and industrialization have been continuously challenging the water quality of the drinking-water reservoirs. The identification and assessment of potential impacts is indispensable in water resource management and protection. Thi…
