  • Reducing private health expenditure in Greece: The case for regulated complementary health insurance

Open Access•Stefanos Karakolias, Miltiadis Nektarios et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Greece records the highest level of private health expenditure in the European Union, driven largely by out-of-pocket payments that undermine financial protection and exacerbate inequities. Despite universal coverage, benefit gaps, cost-sharing arrangements, and limits in publicly financed service availability shift a substantial financial burden onto households. Within a dual insurance system, voluntary private health insurance frequently overla…

  • The Effect of a Single Bout of Chinese Archery on Core Executive Functions in Preadolescent Children in Shanghai

Open Access•Jianjun Liu, Surasak Taneepanichskul et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Recent literature has demonstrated that acute physical activity benefits the transfer of executive functions. However, further studies indicated the type of variability in the effect of physical activity on executive functions. Therefore, this study initially explored the effect of a single bout of Chinese archery on subdomains of core EFs in preadolescent children; Method: Eligible participants were allocated either an intervention group ( n = 3…

  • Becoming ‘Homo Economicus’ as Learned Behavior among Numerate Greek University Students

    Open Access•Michail Chouzouris, Peter Xenos et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2022•References: 5

In this study, we use experimental methods to probe how far individuals depart from choices consistent with “Rational Economic Man” and whether these departures are associated with financial and numeric literature on the one hand, and, more fundamentally, with impulsive or analytical thinking—i.e., with cognitive reflection. We examine a purposely biased sample of Greek undergraduates enrolled in a course heavy on statistics and probability who p…

  • The Changing Transitions to Adulthood across Southeast Asia: A Census Approach to Cross-National Comparisons

Open Access•Quamrun Nahar, Peter Xenos et al.•ARTICLE•The Annals of the American…•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 24

Using data from the national censuses of five Southeast Asian countries, this article examines entropy-based measures of the heterogeneity in a set of five markers of the transition to adulthood. Our results suggest that the transition to adulthood is becoming increasingly complex over time in all five countries; complexity is greatest for females, and important cross-national differences in heterogeneity levels and timing persist when underlying…

  • Emerging Forms of Union Formation in the Philippines: Assessing levels and social distributions

    Peter Xenos, Midea Kabamalan•ARTICLE•Asian Population Studies•2007•Cited by: 7•References: 16

This paper draws on recent national survey data for the Philippines to examine changes in multiple indicators of the union formation and sexual systems, and then describes the social distributions of various aspects of those behaviors. Some features of the pattern echo the 'second demographic transition' as reported in many other parts of the globe. This includes rising levels of premarital sex and cohabitation, but notably excludes the virtual c…

Broad description of the pattern of many events is followed by a detailed consideration of event-sequences among school-…

Herbert R Barringer, David Takeuchi et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of Education•1990•Cited by: 37

This article examines data from the 1980 census on the education, occupations, and personal income of various groups of Asian Americans in light of general hypotheses derived from assimilation, human capital, and structural theories.
