  • Beyond the youth success trap: A Four-Gate Coaching Audit of Japan's 2017 U20 football cohort

Open Access•Rui Chen, Shiyan Sheng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2026

Introduction Youth tournament success is visible, but it is not itself evidence of later adult access, elite club exposure or senior national-team contribution. Coaching departments therefore require source-traceable follow-up after selection. This methodological case study introduces a proof-of-concept Four-Gate Coaching Audit for converting a youth selection event into a longitudinal, player-level evidence register. Methods The audit is a monit…

Open Access•Xintong Fang, Rui Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2026

The primary form of private enterprise governance and a key contributor to China’s economic expansion are family enterprises. The seamless transfer of family enterprises from one generation to the next contributes to the steady advancement of the private economy. Although the internal compensation distribution mechanism of firms may need to be adjusted due to the intergenerational transmission of family enterprises, there isn’t enough pertinent t…

  • “Wow, You’re Really the Champion of the ‘Resting Competition’, Huh?!”: Robot Knows How to Use Irony Effectively

Rui Chen, Takashi Minato et al.•ARTICLE•ACM Transactions on Human-Robot…•2026

Irony can have remarkable positive effects on human behavior. However, those effects depend on the appropriate use of irony. Existing theoretical frameworks in psychology and sociology discuss the use of irony, including its effects on emotional states and behaviors. However, these frameworks often rely on subjective intuition, rendering them impractical for robotic systems. Additionally, our investigation of prior research in human-robot interac…

Open Access•Wu Juan, Shiya Chen et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2026

Expository texts are vital to acquiring knowledge; however, they are challenging for L2 learners for their dense information and abstract concepts. Although augmented reality (AR) has shown promise in supporting L2 reading, little is known about its effectiveness for expository text reading among young L2 learners. This quasi-experimental study explored the effects of AR on elementary Chinese-as-a-second-language (CSL) learners’ expository readin…

Open Access•Rui Chen, Ya Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

Adjusting planting structure, as a strategic intervention in agricultural ecosystems, is essential for enhancing ecosystem service value (ESV) and improving ecological functionality. Existing studies largely focus on the static ecological implications of planting structure transformation, overlooking dynamic spatial spillover effects and lacking a systematic understanding of cross‐regional ecological linkages. This study develops an innovative an…

Open Access•Xiang Yu, Yu Xiang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

The application rate and droplet characteristics of sprinkler irrigation influence soil erosion and nitrogen loss. Canopy cover significantly alters the application rate and droplet characteristics. However, limited information is available on how sprinkler irrigation affects soil runoff, erosion, and nitrogen loss under canopy cover, especially under fertigation conditions. This study uses Nelson R33 sprinklers for indoor soil tank experiments t…

Digital media have played a significant role in the rise of nationalism in recent years. Existing research, however, tends to focus on more explicit or passionate expressions of nationalist feelings online. In contrast, there has been very little work on the relationship between everyday digital practices and the (re)production of national frameworks among 'ordinary' citizens. To address this lacuna, this study develops a novel theoretical framew…

Enumerating objects in the environment (i.e., “number sense”) is crucial for survival in many animal species, and foundational for the construction of more abstract and complex mathematical knowledge in humans. Perhaps surprisingly, deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) spontaneously emerge a similar number sense even without any explicit training for numerosity estimation. However, little is known about how the number sense emerges, and the…
