    Until the Biafran war (1967-1970) Chinua Achebe was best known as the frontline African novelist. He had published Things Fall Apart (1958), No Longer at Ease (1960), Arrow of God (1964), and A Man of the People (1966), which represented the most substantial fictional achievement by an African writer at that time.
