  • A revived Canada-China relations 2.0

Open Access•Lynette H Ong, Wu Yang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal Canada s…•2026

Canada’s foreign relations with China and the United States are at a critical juncture. President Trump has put unprecedented pressure on Ottawa, turning Canadian public opinion sharply against the traditional closely-knitted Canada-US relationship. China has signaled its willingness to restore economic relations with Canada; however, political and security risks stemming from Chinese foreign interference and transnational repression remain. The …

  • Quantitative analyses of multidimensional ecological impacts of Talatan photovoltaic power plant on desert ecosystems in Northwestern China

Open Access•Yufen Tong, Yishuang Tong et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

Globally, solar energy has supplanted fossil fuels as the predominant source of clean energy. Scholars have been calling for techno-ecological synergies that minimizing unintended environmental consequences; however, empirical evidence is largely missing in the existing literature. Taking the world’s largest photovoltaic (PV) power plant as a demonstration, combining remote sensing images with field data, we actively used the spatiotemporal dynam…

  • Potential Toxicity Risk Assessment and Priority Control Strategy for PAHs Metabolism and Transformation Behaviors in the Environment

Open Access•Lei Zhao, Mengying Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

In this study, 16 PAHs were selected as the priority control pollutants to summarize their environmental metabolism and transformation processes, including photolysis, plant degradation, bacterial degradation, fungal degradation, microalgae degradation, and human metabolic transformation. Meanwhile, a total of 473 PAHs by-products generated during their transformation and degradation in different environmental media were considered. Then, a compr…

  • Perceived Covid-19 risk exposure and adoption of preventive behaviors

Open Access•Wu Yang, Yang Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2022

Increasing preventive behaviors is critical to mitigating the rapid spread of COVID-19, but this can be challenging as some people are reluctant to practice these behaviors. We explored the mediating role of threat appraisal in the link between perception of COVID-19 risk exposure and preventive behavior, and the moderating effect of COVID-19 information consumption through social media. We recruited 577 people in China to complete a survey. The …

  • The Reception of Mo Yan’s Novel Thirteen Steps (《十三步》) in Spanish speaking Regions from the Perspective of Variation Theory

    Open Access•Wu Yang, Yang Wu•ARTICLE•Comparative Literature East & West•2021

Mo Yan’s novels were first translated into Spanish in 1992. But the direct translation of his works from Chinese into Spanish instead of from English or French didn’t start until 2012.This essay will focus on the latest direct translation (Chinese to Spanish) of the novel Thirteen Steps (《十三步》), and try to discuss its reception in Spanish-speaking regions from two aspects: one is the reviews and comments from the local Spanish critics; the other …

  • Dramatic mariculture expansion and associated driving factors in Southeastern China

Open Access•Jing Wu, Tomás Marín Del Valle et al.•ARTICLE•Landscape and Urban Planning•2021

Mariculture has a profound potential to meet the escalating demand for food. However, so far the understandings of spatiotemporal dynamics of mariculture and indicators of underlying mechanisms are altogether missing in the existing literature. Using high-resolution satellite images, here we provide a first ever detailed analysis to map the spatiotemporal dynamics and explore associated driving factors of mariculture expansion in Southeastern Chi…

  • Profitability, income inequality, and subjective well-being of mariculture households in China

Open Access•Jing Wu, Hongbo Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

Mariculture has a profound potential to sustainably meet the escalating demands for food and livelihoods. However, the socioeconomic impacts of small-scale aquaculture (SSA) are poorly understood, particularly for marine SSA in China, a leading global producer of aquaculture products. Using detailed household surveys, we comprehensively evaluated profitability, income inequality, and subjective well-being of marine SSA households in a representat…

  • Adsorption of Trace Estrogens in Ultrapure and Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent by Magnetic Graphene Oxide

Open Access•Xianze Wang, Zhongmou Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

In the current study, graphene oxide, Fe 3+ , and Fe 2+ were used for the synthesis of magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) by an in situ chemical coprecipitation method. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the well-prepared MGO. The prepared MGO was used as an adsorbent to remove five typical estrogens (estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), …

  • Changes in Human Well-being and Rural Livelihoods Under Natural Disasters

Open Access•Hongbo Yang, Thomas Dietz et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2018

  • Strengthening protected areas for biodiversity and ecosystem services in China

Open Access•Weihua Xu, Yi Xiao et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2017

Significance Following severe environmental degradation from rapid economic development, China is now advancing policies to secure biodiversity and ecosystem services. We report the first nationwide assessment, showing that protected areas (PAs) are not well delineated to protect either biodiversity or key ecosystem services. This serious deficiency exists in many countries. We propose creating a national park system in China to help guide develo…

  • Telecoupling framework for research on migratory species in the Anthropocene

Open Access•Jacqueline Hulina, Carol Bocetti et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2017

Migratory species are an important component of biodiversity and provide essential ecosystem services for humans, but many are threatened and endangered. Numerous studies have been conducted on the biology of migratory species, and there is an increased recognition of the major role of human dimensions in conserving migratory species. However, there is a lack of systematic integration of socioeconomic and environmental factors. Because human acti…

  • Improvements in ecosystem services from investments in natural capital

Open Access•Zhiyun Ouyang, Hua Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2016

China's national ecosystem assessment China recently completed its first National Ecosystem Assessment covering the period 2000–2010. Ouyang et al. present the main findings of the assessment. Investment in the restoration and preservation of natural capital has resulted in improvements at the national level in most of the major ecosystem services measured. In particular, food production, carbon sequestration, and soil retention showed strong gai…

  • Adolescents' Core Self-Evaluations as Mediators of the Effect of Mindfulness on Life Satisfaction

Open Access•Jianfeng Tan, Wu Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2016

We examined the mediating role of Chinese adolescents' core self-evaluations in the relationship between mindfulness and their life satisfaction. The participants ( N = 436) completed the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, the Core Self-Evaluations Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The results suggested that greater life satisfaction was associated with higher levels of mindfulness and more positive core self-evaluations, and core self…

  • Asymptotic Marginal Tax Rate of Individual Income Tax in China

Zhenya Liu, Wu Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Economic and Political Studies•2014•References: 2

This paper examines the asymptotic marginal rate of individual income tax which maximizes China’s social welfare through numerical simulation based on the elasticity of China’s labor supply, income distribution and the social objectives of redistribution in accordance with the optimal direct taxation theory. Taking advantage of the optimal direct taxation model with consideration of the income effect, it comes to the conclusion that combined with…
