  • The Cambridge Companion to Classics and Race

Open Access•Katherine Mcdonald, Naoíse Mac Sweeney et al.•BOOK•The Cambridge Companion to…•2026

Race as a concept has had a fraught role in the history of Classics, woven into its formation as an academic discipline. While the texts and artefacts of the ancient Mediterranean world provide complex understandings of what race might mean and how it might operate, they have also provided fodder for modern racial ideologies. This Companion offers a wide-ranging and groundbreaking overview of 'race' and 'racism' in ancient Mediterranean cultures …

    Open Access•David Kaufman, D B Kaufman•ARTICLE•Journal of Balkan and Near…•2023

This paper will investigate the development of the War Guilt Question in interwar Europe through an examination of the dispute between two of Britain’s leading experts on the Balkans, Mary Edith Durham and R.W. David Kaufman, D B Kaufman•ARTICLE•Diplomacy and Statecraft•2019•References: 6

Recent years have witnessed increasing interest amongst international historians on the influence by experts on foreign policy decision making. Most work thus far has concentrated on American foreign policy since 1945, but this analysis broadens the focus to consider the impact of experts on British decision makers through the use of informal networks below the level of Cabinet ministers whilst debating the future of the city of Danzig at the Par…

Open Access•Emmanuel Duplàa, David Kaufman et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Communication•2017

In the current context of aging populations, digital games can increase cognitive skills and decrease loneliness among elders. However, it is hard to access data about elders’ uses of digital games. We have administered a survey to 1,208 Canadian elders from British Columbia and Québec. Our findings show that several factors independently influence practices: language, education, social context and to some extent gender. It would be appropriate t…

It offers a detailed analysis of these positionals and compares their use with other Siouan and some non-Siouan languages. Sadly, it often happens that languages and cultures become dormant with no written record of their existence, of how the people perceived their world, and how they described it through their folk stories. Such would have been the case of the now dormant Rumsen Ohlone language of California were it not for the tireless dedication of linguist John P. Harrington. The use of multiple regression as a data-analytic tool is examined for the cases of balanced and unbalanced designs. The utility of this method for testing specific contrasts, both orthogonal and non-orthogonal, is discussed and some interpretive cautions are examined. An example is given to illustrate the four design situations which are possible under the different coding and cell size conditions
