    Open Access•Teresa García‐muñoz, Juliette Milgram Baleix•ARTICLE•Politics and Governance•2021•Cited by: 6•References: 21

In this article, we investigate the determinants of individuals’ opinions concerning the economic impact of immigrants. Unlike most previous studies, we use a large sample of 61 countries (Joint WVS/EVS 2017–2020 dataset) that are either net receivers or net emitters of migrants. Using a multilevel model, we test the effect of individuals’ characteristics and of several macroeconomic variables on the assessment of immigrants’ impact on developmen…

  • Environmental engagement, religion and spirituality in the context of secularization

    Open Access•Marie Briguglio, Teresa García‐muñoz et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

Over the past half century, a literature has developed across a range of disciplines exploring the relationship between religion and environmental engagement, including pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. Empirical results are diverse and the relationship seems to vary in size and direction, depending on definitions and the method of investigation adopted. An increasingly important phenomenon which has received far less attention is that …

  • Inequality and Life Satisfaction in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

    Open Access•Teresa García‐muñoz, Juliette Milgram Baleix et al.•ARTICLE•Societies•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 13

This study delves into the relationship between income inequality and subjective well-being by gauging the role played by opportunities at the country level. Using data from the World Value Survey, we estimate multilevel models to explain cross-country differences in individuals’ life satisfaction. Opportunity and inequality exert a significant effect per se on life satisfaction, and their joint effect explains the puzzling positive relationship …

Using a dataset of 15,000 subjects from 32 Western countries, the current study examines individuals who were raised in a certain religion and, at some stage of their lives, left it. Currently, they define their religious affiliation as 'no religion'. A battery of explanatory variables (country-specific, personal attributes and marriage variables) was employed to test for determinants of this decision. It was found that the tendency of individual…

  • Bridges or buffers? Motives behind Immigrants' Religiosity

    Open Access•Teresa Garcia-Muñoz, Teresa García‐muñoz et al.•ARTICLE•IZA Journal of Migration•2013•Cited by: 6•References: 42

This study reviews and evaluates the motives and incentives behind immigrants' religiosity, focusing on the two sides of the Atlantic - Europe and the United States. The contribution of the study is mainly empirical, trying to identify indicators for the type of incentive - whether immigrants' religiosity serves as a 'bridge' or a 'buffer' in the process of adaptation to the receiving country. The statistical analysis draws on data from several w…

Resumimos brevemente las principales características de los experimentos que consideramos y señalamos los principales resultados relacionados con las diferencias de género. La gran ma…

  • The big carrot

    Open Access•Pablo Brañas–garza, Teresa García‐muñoz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Decision…•2009•Cited by: 4•References: 26

Using an international dataset of about 35 000 subjects, this paper provides an empirical example of high‐stakes incentives in relation to religious practice. First, we show that incentives (based on absolute belief) play a salient role in religious performance. Second, we find that when both positive (heaven) and negative (hell) incentives are available the former are more effective than the latter. Specifically, it is shown that beliefs in heav…
