This program has demonstrated that youth can contribute to DRR through knowledge mobilization, and support public education about disaster preparedness. Offering this opportunity at a grassroots level can support participation by youth by allowing flexibility in design and adaptation to individual environmental and social contexts

In many instances, states join in multinational nominations to inscribe the heritage element in a way that reflects this reality. The legal requirements of transracial adoption of children in England changed in 2014. An amendment to the law removed a requirement that due consideration be given to the ‘child's religious persuasion, racial origin and ethnic and linguistic background’. Indigenous rights have developed in a very different trajectory than minority rights within the United Nations. This is remarkable given that indigenous rights were once seen as simply contained within the larger umbrella of minority rights, and that many groups can claim access to both the differing bodies of rights. Increasing adoption placements for looked after children is the focus of recent initiatives to reform adoption law in both the UK and the USA. Developments in the law are aimed at providing permanent homes for looked after children by encouraging both increased adoptions and quicker decisions to move a child to adoption when the child cannot return home. An implicit goal of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) at its founding was the protection of members who investigated controversial social issues.
