  • Reclaiming the Archive

    Open Access•Heba Abd El Gawad•CHAPTER•Nile Delta•2024

In this short chapter, I consider the representation of and contribution of Egyptian women to archaeology as suggested by the archaeological archive. I do so by looking at Flinders Petrie’s Delta excavation archives (1880–1924), reflecting thereby on the biases and absences in the record through a female Indigenous archaeologist lens. • The Nile Delta

Open Access•Frédéric Guyot, Claire Somaglino et al.•BOOK•Nile Delta•2024

This is the first volume on the history of the Nile Delta to cover the c.7000 years from the Predynastic period to the twentieth century. It offers a multidisciplinary approach engaging with varied aspects of the region's long, complex, yet still underappreciated history. Readers will learn of the history of settlement, agriculture and the management of water resources at different periods and in different places, as well as the naming and mappin…

Open Access•William Carruthers, JC Niala et al.•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the History of…•2021•Cited by: 7•References: 9

This special issue gathers together a selection of short articles reflecting on the historical construction of inequality and race in the histories of archaeology. The articles also suggest ways in which the discipline might grapple with the—often obvious, sometimes subtle—consequences of that historical process. Solicited via an open call for papers in the summer of 2020 (one made with the aim of speedy publication), the breadth of the topics di…

  • Egypt's dispersed heritage

Open Access•Heba Abd El Gawad, Heba Abd el-Gawad et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Archaeology•2021•Cited by: 12•References: 11

This paper responds to a need to address the colonial history of collections of Egyptian archaeology and to find new ways in which Egyptian audiences can assume greater agency in such a process. The 'Egypt's Dispersed Heritage' project presents a model of engagement whereby foreign museum collections become the inspiration for Egyptians to express their own feelings about the removal of their heritage abroad using idioms and traditional storytell…
