  • Clinical Practice Within the Nurse Practitioner Academic Role

Open Access•Martha M Whitfield, Roger Pilon et al.•ARTICLE•Global Qualitative Nursing Research•2026

PhD-prepared nurse practitioners (NPs) bring a unique combination of attributes to work within university settings. However, models for integrating clinical practice within academia are lacking for nursing faculty. As four PhD-prepared NPs, we completed a pilot collaborative self-study to explore how PhD-NPs working in academia experience the integration of clinical practice with academic work, and how clinical practice fits within workload and a…

  • Diabetes in Liberia

Open Access•Paulina Bleah, Joan Almost et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2024

There is increasing awareness that diabetes is a growing public health threat in Liberia. The high mortality and morbidity associated with diabetes have significant implications for individuals, families and communities. The current response to diabetes in Liberia is limited to the management of acute complications. Long-term strategies for the prevention and control of diabetes are almost entirely absent from national health agendas. This brief …

  • ‘The solution is we need to have a centre’

Open Access•Paulina Bleah, Rosemary Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2023

In Liberia, one of the poorest nations in sub-Saharan Africa, the burden of diabetes is a growing concern. The high mortality and morbidity associated with diabetes have significant implications for individuals, families and society at large. The aim of this critical hermeneutic study was to explore what it is like to live with diabetes in Liberia. We recruited 10 participants from Monrovia, Liberia to partake in this study. Photovoice, a well-es…

  • Phenomenographic Approaches in Research About Nursing

Open Access•Martha M Whitfield, Mike Mimirinis et al.•ARTICLE•Global Qualitative Nursing Research•2023

We propose that phenomenography is well-suited to research about nursing, given its focus on identifying variation in individuals' experiences, and inclusion of diverse voices and perspectives. Phenomenography explores qualitatively different ways in which a group of people experience a phenomenon, often using semi-structured interviews. The use of phenomenography is especially relevant in research about nursing which provides accounts of the exp…

  • Another language is another soul

    Rosemary Wilson•ARTICLE•Language and Intercultural…•2013•Cited by: 9•References: 3

For many language learners, studying a foreign language is a compulsory, high-stakes activity. It is perhaps for this reason that positive feelings about language learning are rarely mentioned in the literature on language learning. The focus is predominantly on negative feelings: the anxiety caused by being asked to speak in the foreign language or the feelings of disempowerment when unable to call on familiar linguistic resources. To counterbal…

  • The use of web questionnaires in second language acquisition and bilingualism research

    Open Access•Rosemary Wilson, Jean-Marc Dewaele•ARTICLE•Second language Research•2010•Cited by: 41•References: 3

The present article focuses on data collection through web questionnaires, as opposed to the traditional pen-and-paper method for research in second language acquisition and bilingualism. It is argued that web questionnaires, which have been used quite widely in psychology, have the advantage of reaching out to a larger and more diverse pool of potential participants, which may increase the ecological validity of the resulting database. After con…
