Open Access•K Kafetsios, Ursula He et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2025•References: 62

To-date, empirical support for the relationship between Emotion Recognition Accuracy and well-being has been very limited. • A Contextualized assessment of ERA −the Assessment of Contextualized Emotion (ACE)- was found to be a consistent predictor of personal and social well-being. • ACE’s influence on well-being was partially mediated by the quality of social interactions. • These findings deepen our understanding of ERA’s role in social functio…

Open Access•Kelly Campbell, Benjamin R Meagher et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 17

We hypothesized that dissimilar mate preferences would augment friendship attraction in zero-acquaintance interactions whereas similar mate preferences would hinder friendship attraction. Heterosexual participants completed an online survey to assess their mate preferences. They also rated the attractiveness of opposite-sex photos. Next, they attended a 3-hr speed-friending session in which they interacted with same-sex others for 3-min each. Aft…

In this study, we inductively explored the characteristics of friendship and romantic chemistry for men and women. A social constructionist lens guided our data collection and interpretation. The sample consisted of 362 ethnically diverse individuals (men = 162, women = 200) who completed an online survey. Using textual coding me…

    Open Access•Kelly Campbell, James C Kaufman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Issues•2017•References: 68

We examined the associations between love, personality, and creativity for people in relationships of varying durations. Participants ( N = 1,529) from regions across the United States completed an online survey. Consistent with prior work, we found that relationship length was negatively associated with passion, positively associated with commitment, and did not exhibit a significant association with intimacy. For personality, agreeableness was …

  • Does Love Influence Athletic Performance? The Perspectives of Olympic Athletes

Open Access•Kelly Campbell, Cheyenne Hosseini et al.•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2016

In this brief report, we provide an initial account of the association between love and athletic performance from the perspective of Olympic athletes. We posit that Romantic Passionate Love (RPL) and athletic performance may both involve the reward-motivation system of the brain. Based on this premise, we explored whether activation in one domain (love) might influence the other (sport). Our investigation was framed using Sternberg's triangular t…

  • Newlywed Women's Marital Expectations: Lifelong Monogamy

Kelly Campbell, David W Wright et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Divorce & Remarriage•2012

Over time, perceptions of marriage in the United States have shifted from a social obligation to a decision based on personal fulfillment. This shift has been most pronounced for women who no longer rely upon marriage for financial security. Marriages based on personal fulfillment are more fragile so when love declines and constraints do not exist, infidelity and divorce are considered viable options. This study investigated newlywed women's mari…

The authors examined the contributions of economic status (ES) and citizenship status to health differences between European Americans, Latino Americans, and noncitizen Latinos. The investigation was framed using social identity and comparison theories. Southern California residents ( N = 2,164) were randomly selected to complete a telephone interview. Increases in ES predicted health improvements for European Americans across ES levels. For Lati…

    Luciana C Silva, Luciana C C B Silva et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Comparative Family…•2012•Cited by: 5

Globalization, technological advances, and increasingly flexible social norms have contributed to more widespread intercultural relationships, particularly in multicultural societies such as the United States. In this paper, the authors use Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems framework (i.e., the macrosystem, exosystem, microsystem, chronosystem) to review the factors involved with entry and adjustment in intercultural relationships. • Marriage Today: Exploring the Incongruence Between Americans' Beliefs and Practices

Kelly Campbell, David W Wright•ARTICLE•Journal of Comparative Family…•2010•Cited by: 6

This paper provides a literature review of the incongruence between Americans' beliefs and practices regarding marriage. In the United States, marriage is conceptualized as a monogamous, lifelong partnership. Yet American practices do not support this conceptualization, which is evidenced by infidelity and divorce rates that approximate 25-50 percent. This paper explores the incongruence and examines how cultural shifts in marital practices have …
