Playworlds as Ways of Being, A Chorus of Voices
This paper discusses the playworlds of the Playworld of Creative Research (PWCR) research group. Play¬worlds are created from a relatively new form of play that can be described as a combination of adult forms of creative imagination (art, science, etc.), which require extensive real life experience, and children’s forms of creative imagination (play), which require the embodiment of ideas and emotions in the material world. In playworlds, adults…

Perezhivaniya as a Means of Creating the Aesthetic Form of Consciousness
Until recently scholars have placed the emergence of perezhivaniya in the later stages of childhood or in adolescence. This article clarifies the meaning of the term perezhivanie by describing perezhivaniya across the life span. We also delineate stages of perezhivaniya. We take into account the work of a range of scholars and artists whose studies of the properties of perezhivaniya have converged, often without their using, or possibly even bein…
A note on domestic vs communal grain storage in the Early Helladic period
This paper sets out to propose an alternative model of economic management at settlements of Early Helladic I–II date, where evidence of socioeconomic hierarchies is not prominent in the archaeological material. It is suggested here that the remains of certain original structures within the boundaries of settlements were once granaries which served the whole community. If this reading of the material is accepted, then communal storage seems to ha…
Vygotsky's theories of play, imagination and creativity in current practice
The ideal of modern western childhood, with its emphasis on the innocence and malleability of children, has combined with various social conditions to promote adult's direction of children's play towards adult-determined developmental goals, and adult's protection of children's play from adults. However, new forms of play, in which adults actively enter into the fantasy play of young children as a means of promoting the development and quality of …

Higher Education as Commodity or Space for Learning
In this article the authors reflect upon and critically examine signs of a contradiction in higher education which they discuss in terms of the tension between ‘use value’ and ‘exchange value’. Use value here represents learning as something valuable ‘in itself’, whereas exchange value represents learning as an achievement of grades and credits to be ‘traded’ on a market. Their aim in this article is to present a model based on the concepts of us…
Excavations in Midea 2008–2009
Excavations in Midea continued in 2008 and 2009 as a Greek-Swedish programme under the direction of Dr Katie Demakopoulou in collaboration with Dr Ann-Louise Schallin.
