Documentality
This volume unites scholars of classical epigraphy, papyrology, and literature to analyze the documentary habit in the Roman Empire. Strabo's Pontic ancestors saw their lives transformed by the Mithridatic Wars. His account of his family's history shows how they coped: they re-anchored their identities by retelling and reshaping family stories. The unsolved mystery of his ancestor Dorylaus the Younger can be explained by such an instance of rewriting family history
