  • I and We

Ben Morgan, Naomi Rokotnitz et al.•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Literary Studies•2023

This article examines Hannah Arendt’s contribution to notions of the “We” and tests key Arendtian concepts through relation and juxtaposition with philosophical and literary texts from different periods, thereby complicating discussions of (1) how individuals participate in, shape, and are shaped by various forms of “We”; (2) how, within collective participation, individuals come to care about being themselves; and (3) to what extent literary tex…

  • Embodied Cognition and the Project of the Bildungsroman

    Ben Morgan•ARTICLE•Poetics Today•2017•References: 28

The article uses the example of the European bildungsroman as represented paradigmatically in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship (1795 - 96) to investigate the effects of reading. Goethe's text is sensitive to the embodied encounters that shape how we relate to the experience of reading, showing the forms of sensuous interaction in which literary reading has its roots. The model of reading presented in Goethe's text is …

  • Situated Cognition and the Study of Culture

    Ben Morgan•ARTICLE•Poetics Today•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 26

The article surveys three major positions in early debates about situated cognition in the 1990s as they are represented, in particular, in the work of Edwin Hutchins, Jean Lave, Etienne Wenger, Tim van Gelder, Andy Clark, Jerome S. Bruner, and John Haugeland. Rather than arbitrate among the three positions and declare a winner, the article suggests that the very tensions between subpersonal, suprapersonal, and personal levels of analysis evident…

  • On Becoming God

    Ben Morgan•BOOK•On becoming God•2012

The book takes as its starting point the declaration by a woman religious in a fourteenth-century text that she has “become God”. Part I sets out the methodological tools necessary for a critical understanding of this claim, arguing that practices of a gendered identity be seen as tools through which people together manage a sense of connectedness to the world and others, a sense of irrefragable involvement that in the fourteenth century is given…

  • An Analysis of Team Evolution and Maturation

Ben Morgan, Ben B Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1993•Cited by: 7•References: 8

Although there has been little research emphasis on the temporal aspects of team development, conventional wisdom has suggested that teams develop in a linear fashion through a sequence of phases. More recent investigations of work groups indicate, however, that teams develop through a variety of alternative paths rather than a single sequence of developmental phases. These lines of thinking are integrated here in the form of a model called Team …

SerresandB. Latour); the “mediology” ofR. Debray, who is especially concerned with the material conditions of product…
