Britain, European Economic Community Enlargement, and ‘Decolonisation’ in Hong Kong, 1967–1973
Politicians and businesspeople in Hong Kong paid close attention to British efforts to join the European Economic Community (EEC). The British colony was exempted from most tariffs in Britain, an arrangement that could not survive EEC enlargement.
