Open Access•Zhen Zhang, Daisheng Tang et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Population Health•2026

Background: Several studies have examined the impact of exposure to war in early life on long-term health outcomes. However, few studies have examined differences in these effects by gender and type of war. This study examines the impact of exposure to multiple war events before the age of 10 on the long-term physical and mental health of adults aged 65 years and older in China, as well as differences these effects between wars of aggression and …

  • Self-rated health and interviewer-rated health

Open Access•Haiyan Zhu, Qiushi Feng et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Interviewer-rated health (IRH) and self-rated health (SRH) have strong and independent predictive power for mortality, but their relative predictive power has not been examined among subpopulations. Because individuals from different subpopulations have distinct views, understandings, and judgments about health that influence their criteria and referents for SRH, we examine whether IRH is a valid predictor of mortality within subpopulations, whic…

  • Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on life expectancy at birth in Asia

Open Access•Yan Mo, Yi Man Flora Mo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The COVID-19 pandemic had significantly affected e 0 of Asian populations, and most contribution to the reduction of e 0 came from the three older age groups, 60-79 years, 80 + years, and 45-59 years, with great variations across countries/territories. Our findings could have important implications for development of more resilient public health systems in Asian societies with better policy interventions for vulnerable demographic groups

  • The Covid-19 pandemic and life expectancy among older adults in Asian countries

    Qiushi Feng, Danan Gu•ARTICLE•Asian Population Studies•2023•Referências: 6

Millions of lives in Asia were lost in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, causing a reduction of 1.66 years in life expectancy at birth (e0) in 2019–2021 and a reduction of 1.41 years in life expectancy at age 60 (e60). Using the World Population Prospects 2022, we decomposed mortality changes at older ages (ages 60+) that contributed to Asia’s reduction in e0 and e60. Overall, changes in mortality at older ages contributed to more than 70 per cent o…
