Would you like some background? Establishing shared rights and duties in video relay service calls to the police
When an interpreter mediates a call from the public to a police force control room (FCR), the partnership established between the interpreter and the call-handler is critical to the caller’s ability to be understood and supported. Using Davies and Harré’s Positioning Theory, this study investigates different approaches to the establishment of relationships and identities during the opening phases of a non-emergency police video relay services (VR…
Representation and diversity in the sign language translation and interpreting profession in the United Kingdom

Contesting forms of capital
Critical peace education literature has focused attention on how programmes that promise to teach peace contribute to and contest existing power relations. Struggles on the Page
This article combines an overview of the historiography of antiapartheid movements with a case study of radical scholarship on South Africa in the 1960s. It highlights the ways that antiapartheid activism effectively framed public understanding of the idea of apartheid and its application in South Africa. Using the British African solidarity movement as an example, it addresses the mutually constitutive relationship between the antiapartheid move…

Note of Stone Kists recently discovered in the Neighbourhood of St Andrews
A few days ago I accompanied Dr Adamson to Piteiilly, to examine a stone kist which had just been discovered at the Milton there, about four miles from St Andrews on the Craill road. As usual, it was found in the subsoil, 2 feet from the surface, and its dimensions were-length, about 4 feet; breadth, 2 feet; depth, 2 feet 9 inches. It consisted of four slabs of sea-stone, with the ripple mark very plainly shown; and in the southwest corner of the…
