Open Access•Stephan Klingner, Malte Zill et al.•ARTICLE•International Communication Gazette•2025•References: 1

This paper examines the evolving role of German Performing Rights Organizations (PROs) in the context of technological advancements and societal shifts, focusing on the tensions and transformations. Employing an interdisciplinary approach encompassing history, sociology, and computer science, the study analyzes three case studies spanning from the early 20th century to the present day. These cases explore tensions arising from monitoring practice…

  • Yhwh's Unique Speaker: Jeremiah

    Open Access•Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•Religions•2025•References: 15

In Jer 15:19, Yhwh calls the prophet Jeremiah "my mouth". This unique designation highlights his importance and finds support in several other features: Jeremiah is portrayed as the promised successor to Moses (Jer 1:7, 9), opposes all other contemporary prophets (e.g., Jer 20; 23; 26-29), and has many additional roles and activities. Furthermore, he shares traits with Yhwh's servant from Isa 49 and 53. His 'biography' is extraordinary and is sho…

    Open Access•Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•Biblische Zeitschrift•2024

The article reflects on the biblical concept of glory ( כבד / δόξα ) and details aspects of its theological content by reading relevant passages in their literary contexts. The second part of the article ponders methodological questions of an exegesis that aims at theological insights

    Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•Comparativ•2023

In 1974, the state government of Minas Gerais, Brazil, assisted by a number of public and pri-vate organizations, carried out a rural development intervention in the central-western Cerrado region. The Programa de Assentamento Dirigido do Alto Paranaíba (PADAP) consisted in reset-tling farmers of Japanese descent from southern to central Brazil, providing them with land, loans, infrastructure, and technical supervision in order to create a model …

  • Trauma und Trost – Strategien und Perspektiven zur Bewältigung des Untergangs Jerusalems

    Open Access•Benedikt J Collinet, Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•Biblische Zeitschrift•2022

While biblical texts generally tend to conciliatory endings, this does not seem to hold true regarding the traumatic destruction of Jerusalem in 587 v.Chr. (cf. 2 Kgs 25//Jer 52). The article presents how some texts manage to transport comforting messages along with the reference to the catastrophic event, e.g. Lev 26; Dtn 4 and 28–32 as well as 2 Kgs 25 in the context of Jos 1 – 2 Kgs 17 and more specifically 2 Kgs 17–24. Jer 52 is interpreted i…

  • Nobody is like you!«: The Distinctive Portrayal of the Biblical God in the Book of Jeremiah

Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel•2021

The theology of the Book of Jeremiah is distinctive in many respects. Starting with Jeremiah 10 and the specific traits of Yhwh contained therein, the article then deals with his »international« characterisation in Jeremiah and goes on to other unique or particular features, offering, towards the end, reflections on the relationship between the composition and the theology of the book.

  • Jeremiah Studies: From Text and Contexts to Theology

    Georg Fischer•BOOK•Jeremiah Studies•2020

Research on the Book of Jeremiah has gained momentum in the past forty years and led to new results. The differences between the MT and the LXX have received more attention than ever. The extent of Deuteronomistic thinking and of redactions marks the debate on the composition of the book. It has become evident that the Book of Jeremiah intensively picks up earlier sources and offers a synthesis of them, comparable to a mosaic. It concentrates on …

  • The Book of Jeremiah: Realisation of threats of the Torah – and also of promises

    Open Access•Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•Verbum et Ecclesia•2019

The relationship between the Torah and the Prophets has been a matter of dispute. This article discusses the links of the Book of Jeremiah especially with the warnings in Leviticus 26 and the curses in Deuteronomy 28, but then goes on to show that it also picks up promises from the Torah and thus indicates a way to salvation. In doing so, it comes close to the Book of Isaiah. The intertextual comparison between these two prophetic books reveals t…

  • Brazilian History as Global History

Open Access•Frederick Schulze, Frederik Schulze et al.•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Latin American Research•2019•Cited by: 5•References: 55

The article discusses the relationship between global history and Brazilian history and suggests an agenda for future research. It argues that global history scholars could profit from Brazil's great scholarly tradition, which conceptualises key topics of global history such as global encounters and cultural identities, power asymmetries and spatial orders. Scholars interested in Brazilian history, on the other hand, will find a set of approaches…

  • "Where are the Botocudos?" Anthropological displays and the entanglements of staring, 1882-1883

    Open Access•Georg Fischer•ARTICLE•História Ciências Saúde-Manguinhos•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 15

This article proposes an entangled perspective on nineteenth-century anthropological exhibitions. Whereas the existing scholarship mostly focuses on the receiving end of such displays or the agency of indigenous performers, this article argues for more stopovers and contextualization to grasp both the ambiguous position of non-metropolitan exhibitors like Brazil and the semantic transformations of traveling exhibits. In 1882, a group of Botocudo …

  • Tuition fees and the time to graduation: Evidence From a Natural Experiment

Kerstin Bruckmeier, Georg Fischer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Higher Education…•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 12

We used the recent introduction of general tuition fees at public universities in several of the German federal states as a natural experiment to identify whether tuition fees reduce the time to graduation and the extent to which they do so. We employed a difference-in-differences approach with the states that introduced fees as the treatment group and the states that remained fee-free as the control group. Our results indicate that the introduct…
