Do Public-Sector and Private-Sector Personnel Have Different Ethical Dispositions: A Study of Two Sites
With the use of an instrument consisting of responses to eight vignettes, the authors of this study sampled ninety-two employees of a southern city's administration and 141 employees of a midwest financial firm regarding their predispositions to prefer deontological or consequentialist formrs of ethical reasoning (or, more crudely, duties v. results). The Turkic languages of Soviet Muslim Asia: Russian linguistic policy
Considering its exceptional character, scope and political as well as cultural implications, the linguistic policy adopted by the Soviet regime towards the Asian minorities of the Union has attracted surprisingly little attention either in such geographically contiguous countries as Iran, Turkey and those of the Indian sub-continent, or in Britain. Between 1953 and 1968 the main trends of the policy were followed in Central Asian Review.' Apart f…
Nationalism versus communism in Asia
Islam and the Soviet Union
Russia's relations with, and in consequence her attitude towards, Islam have differed greatly from those of the Western European powers. In the first place, the state of Muscovy was for over two hundred years under the domination of the islamised Mongols, and the subsequent Russian conquest and colonisation of the Muslim territories of the Volga region, the Caucasus and Central Asia was accompanied, although not actually induced, by a sense of re…

The study of Soviet central Asia today
Soviet Central Asia, with its indigenous Muslim population of some twenty-five million, was originally just as much a part of the Muslim East of the caliphates as the Middle East, which it adjoins geographically and with which it has considerable cultural affinities. Like the Middle East, too, its political and administrative structure has been radically changed as the result of great power involvement, albeit with widely differing consequences, …

But this literature has so far escaped systematic examination in the West, partly because Russian is not normally included in the linguistic equipm…
