Bridging People, Countries and Continents to Promote DendrochronologyIn MemoriamDieter Eckstein 1939–2021
During his path from student to Director of a world-leading wood research institute he visited numerous places around the world, connected to many fellow colleagues, and educated many students who are now working across the world, with many of them carrying on the "Eckstein spirit".
Establishing a high‐resolution stratigraphy in the Holocene marine sequence of the ancient Theodosian harbor of Istanbul with the help of dendrochronology
Salvage excavations in the Theodosian harbor (Yenikapı‐Istanbul) have uncovered diverse archaeological objects including 36 shipwrecks and various Byzantine period wooden docks. The sequence of these docks provided a unique opportunity to obtain a high‐resolution stratigraphy. The new approach is based on stratigraphic interpretation of deformation patterns created by the posts in soft sediments, combined with dendrochronological dating of the po…

Dendrochronological Dating in Egypt
We assess the state of and potential for expansion of dendroarchaeological research in Egypt. We also report previously unpublished findings, which we hope will assist with the new effort in constructing tree-ring chronologies in Egypt. In doing so, we explain briefly some of the problems and potential of the future enterprise
The difficulties of dating olive wood
Olive wood is difficult to date for a variety of reasons, the most important of which is that one cannot tell visually what is an annual growth increment (usually referred to as a 'ring') and what is a sub-annual growth flush of which there may be any number in one growing season. (I have been able to count a dozen or more flushes in olive wood where the end of the growing season was somewhat more clearly marked than usual.) If one cannot determi…

Bu kronoloji hem Kultepe'nin Karum II ve Karum 1b tabakalarini icermekte, hem de bu tabakalari Acemhoyuk ve Karahoyuk-Konya'daki cagdas tabakalara baglamaktadir. Ilk defa her uc kazi alaninin Karum II tabakasina ait yapilarina kesin tarih verebiliyoruz. Ornegin, Karum 1b'de, Kultepe'nin Warsama Sarayi …
Confirmation of near-absolute dating of east Mediterranean Bronze-Iron dendrochronology
Culpability ORs exaggerate risk increases and parameter uncertainty when misinterpreted as total crash ORs. The increased crash risk associated with THC-positive drivers in culpability studies is low

No Systematic Early Bias to Mediterranean 14 C Ages
Existing data and theory do not support a recent assertion that upwelling of old carbon has led to systematically 100–300 yr too old radiocarbon ages for the Mediterranean region. Similarly, the prehistoric tree-ring record produced over 3 decades by the Aegean Dendrochronology Project is shown to provide robust, well-replicated data, contrary to a recent unfounded assertion. 14 C and dendrochronology provide an accurate and precise chronometric …
Absolute age range of the Late Cypriot IIC Period on Cyprus
Extensive radiocarbon data are examined, including results from short-lived samples contemporary with use-contexts. An absolute date range for the main Late Cypriot IIC period on Cyprus, from c. 1340-1315 BC to c. 1200 BC, is proposed

We have defined a region extending at least 2,000 km. from central Yugoslavia and NW Greece to eastern Turkey and south to Cyprus, within which the annual growth rings of pines and oaks are so similar that they may be compared for hundreds of years at a time. Within this region, we have established a North Greek Oak Master Chronology extending 864 years back from 1979 to 1116 A.C. linking oak samples from 33 standing churches, mosques, and houses…
