  • Dendrochronological analysis and radiocarbon dating of charcoal remains from the multi-period site of Uşaklı Höyük, Yozgat, Turkey

    Open Access•Barbara Gmińska-Nowak, Anthony D''Agostino et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2021•References: 3

In the current study we use methods in dendrochronological dating, radiocarbon dating and wiggle-matching analysis to accurately date charcoal samples collected from the archaeological site of Uşaklı Höyük, Yozgat, Turkey. These data contribute to the understanding of the stratigraphical relationships in three different contexts of this multi-period mound. The examined charcoal materials were identified as cedar (Cedrus sp.) and oak (Quercus sp.)…

  • Vincent Blanchard (dir.), Royaumes oubliés, de l’Empire hittite aux Araméens

    Stefania Mazzoni•ARTICLE•Syria•2020

  • Tell Afis in the Iron Age

    Stefania Mazzoni•ARTICLE•Near Eastern Archaeology•2014•References: 5

During the Iron Age, the western side of the acropolis was occupied by a temple and a terrace related to it. Temple A1–2 had a tripartite plan with rooms along the sides. It was built on a deposit constituted by the materials belonging to two earlier superimposed temples of Iron I (A3.1–2). These had the same plan: a square hall with a podium nearly in the center and a façade in antis

  • Tell Afis

    Stefania Mazzoni•ARTICLE•Near Eastern Archaeology•2013

Many archaeological campaigns have been carried out at Tell Afis (55 km south of Aleppo). They have revealed a rich urban history from the fourth to the first millennium b.c.e. The acropolis of the mound was occupied by a walled town during the Late Chalcolitic period. In the Middle Bronze period the site expanded with a lower town. In the Late Bronze Age it belonged to the Hittite Empire. During the ninth century b.c.e., under King Zakkur, it be…

  • Ebla

    Stefania Mazzoni•ARTICLE•Journal of Mediterranean…•2004•Cited by: 7

This paper draws on data from the excavation of late fourth and third millennia settlements in the northern Levant to explore the dynamic relationship between craft production and urbanization. An examination of the contexts of production and patterns of artefact distribution, both within and between settlements, suggests that the impact on craft production of elite-dominated managerial institutions can be detected at both central and peripheral …

  • Elements of the Ceramic Culture of Early Syrian Ebla in Comparison with Syro-Palestinian EB IV

Stefania Mazzoni•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the American Schools…•1985

Correlation of EB III and IV evidence in Syria and Palestine is essential for proposing solutions to the problem of contacts and influences. The ceramic evidence from Ebla IIB 1-2 has a special bearing on the discussion of Palestinian connections with Syria; material from other sites in the north-central region of Syria is also surveyed. The result is that it may now be possible to propose firmer correlations at the same time that limits on the c…
