Evaluating perceptions of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) through a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach
Nature-based solutions, such as green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) have numerous co-benefits alongside stormwater management, including reduced environmental contamination, improved urban aesthetics, and enhanced community health. However, the implementation of GSI often does not benefit marginalized communities and can exacerbate existing inequities through green gentrification. Here, we propose the utilization of a community-based participat…
Saltwater intrusion and sea level rise threatens U.S. rural coastal landscapes and communities
The United States (U.S.) coastal plain is subject to rising sea levels, land subsidence, more severe coastal storms, and more intense droughts. These changes lead to inputs of marine salts into freshwater-dependent coastal systems, creating saltwater intrusion. The penetration of salinity into the coastal interior is exacerbated by groundwater extraction and the high density of agricultural canals and ditches throughout much of the rural U.S. lan…
Reflections An impish perspective reprised
These reflections attempt to revive the IMPPISH perspective; otherwise known as the interaction, mentalist, populational, process, intelligence, self selection, and hypertrophy approach. Despite the clever acronym, the IMPPISH perspective struggles to stay on life support. This essay takes a fresh look at the IMPPISH approach, and breaks down each tenet into three parts: its theoretical proposition, relevance to the Association for Politics and t…

Celebrating Darwin's Legacy
To find oneself cited sympathetically along with one's colleagues—notably Roger Masters, Glen Schubert, and Fred Willhoite—in an intellectual history by a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian is pleasant discovery. But it also constitutes something of a conflict of interest in pronouncing a judgment upon the work—it could, after all, turn out to be a disappointing dud. So it is doubly a pleasure, even allowing for an inevitable bias, to report that C…

Issues in Multiple Regression
Intelligence, Individual Differences, and Learning
Something obviously occurs between the birth of a child and his arrival into adulthood. No one would seriously expect a newborn infant to speak, to write, or to vote. But of the young adult, in Western democracies at least, all these activities and more are expected. 'In all societies', Whiting and Child' report, 'the helpless infant, getting his food by nursing at his mother's breast and, having digested it, freely evacuating the waste products,…
