  • Quantifying the potential uncertainty and development suitability of sandstone porous geothermal reservoirs for urban heating in northwestern Shandong plain, China

Open Access•Yixiang He, Pengpeng Ding et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2026

  • Negotiating Identities in the Covid-19 Crisis

    Shaohua Liu, Shao-Hua Liu•ARTICLE•Medical Anthropology•2025•References: 18

Taiwan, internationally acclaimed for its early success in COVID-19 control, credits its robust system of medical epidemiologists as pivotal. This article examines how these physicians were caught between the professionalism of global health initiatives and the challenges of local governance in a structurally unequal world. These dynamics shaped their roles as both members of transnational networks upholding professional principles and national s…

  • Effect of stand age on soil microbial metabolic limitation and enzyme activities in Robinia pseudoacacia L. plantations in the loess hilly‐gully region, China

Open Access•Min Zhao, Yarong Sun et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2024

Soil heterotrophic microorganisms play crucial roles in soil biogeochemical cycles by secreting extracellular enzymes, but their metabolism is often limited by resource availability. Identifying major resources that limit soil microbial metabolism could help to create reasonable management practices for the maintenance of ecosystem function. Robinia pseudoacacia plantations perform crucial functions in reconstituting the ecological integrity of d…

  • Cognitive impairment assessed by Mini-Mental State Examination predicts all-cause and CVD mortality in Chinese older adults

Open Access•Zhiqiang Li, Xinran Gong et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Objective: Cognitive impairment (CI) has been demonstrated as a useful proxy measure of mortality in Western populations. However, the predictive value of CI in Chinese populations is unknown. We aimed to explore whether CI is independently associated with increased long-term all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in Chinese older adults and the association of performance in specific MMSE sub-domains to subsequent mortality. Methods…

  • Sexual Dysfunction in Chronically Medicated Male Inpatients With Schizophrenia

Open Access•Dianying Liu, Shaohua Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

This study shows that nearly one-third of young and middle-aged chronically medicated male inpatients with schizophrenia suffer from sexual dysfunction. The negative factor of the PANSS can be regarded as the risk factor of sexual dysfunction. Schizophrenia patients with sexual dysfunction experienced lower pleasure and higher avoidance motivation than non-sexual dysfunction patients when exposed to erotic stimuli

  • A Machine Learning Model for Accurate Prediction of Sepsis in ICU Patients

Open Access•Dong Wang, Jingbo Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Background: Although numerous studies are conducted every year on how to reduce the fatality rate associated with sepsis, it is still a major challenge faced by patients, clinicians, and medical systems worldwide. Early identification and prediction of patients at risk of sepsis and adverse outcomes associated with sepsis are critical. We aimed to develop an artificial intelligence algorithm that can predict sepsis early. Methods: This was a seco…

  • Passage to Manhood

    Shaohua Liu, Shao-Hua Liu•BOOK•Passage to Manhood•2020

Passage to Manhood is a groundbreaking and beautifully written ethnography that addresses the intersection of modernity, heroin use, and AIDS as they intersect in a new "rite-of-passage" among young ethnic-minority males in contemporary China

  • Prevalence and Related Factors of Insomnia Among Chinese Medical Staff in the Middle and Late Stage of Covid-19

Open Access•Dianying Liu, Shaohua Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Background: The outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has brought serious psychological pressure to people, especially medical health staff. At present, there are few studies on insomnia and related factors of medical health staff in the middle and late stage of the epidemic of COVID-19. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of insomnia and its related risk factors among medical workers in China in the …

  • Discrimination and incorporation of Taiwanese indigenous Austronesian peoples

    Shu‐min Huang, Shu-Min Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Ethnicity•2016•Cited by: 6•References: 2

This paper examines contemporary developments among Taiwan’s indigenous Austronesian peoples. We have reviewed major policy changes mainly since the 1980s and their impacts on later developments – both the positive improvements in general well-being and the persistence of ingrained problems among them. Major findings indicate two growing trends among Taiwanese Austronesians. One is the rise of interest in their cultures and efforts to preserve an…

  • Research on response of the Chinese pine to regional climatic factors and drought events, Xiaowutai Mountain, China

Open Access•Denghua Yan, Jun Yin et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Anthropological Ethics in the Shadows

    Shaohua Liu, Shao-Hua Liu•ARTICLE•Asian Anthropology•2010•Cited by: 2•References: 10

One day in 2005 I was standing among a group of health workers and several bystanders watching a high-ranking health officer lecturing a group of ethnic Nuosu peasants in Limu, an impoverished mountain community in southwest Sichuan Province, China. These Nuosu had tested HIV-positive, and now squatted quietly in front of the officer listening to his advice about how to prevent further transmission of the AIDS virus. All of a sudden, a primary-sc…

  • Contested Aids Stigmatization in Southwest China

    Shaohua Liu, Shao-Hua Liu•ARTICLE•Human Organization•2009

This article examines the emerging stigmatization of AIDS in a mountainous community of the Nuosu, a minority group in southwest China. The Nuosu did not discriminate against victims of the disease prior to state intervention, but stigma has been introduced by the Chinese state agents' mechanical transplantation of a global AIDS intervention program, which has generated fear of AIDS in the community. This situation developed from state agents' wi…
