Multifunctional sustainability benefits of rubber agroforestry: Evidence from rubber–Alpinia oxyphylla systems in tropical China
Rubber agroforestry systems are widely practiced across Asia, particularly in the tropical regions of China, as a common agricultural approach. While these systems have demonstrated high productivity in some areas, their broader contributions to sustainability have not been fully explored. Additionally, agroforestry is often undervalued due to concerns about labor intensity, time demands, and limited mechanization. This study assesses the sustain…
Competition in the labor market: The wage effect of employer concentration in China
Competition in the labor market theoretically leads to higher wages, yet empirical evidence to substantiate it, particularly in developing countries, has been sparse. Our study delves into the impact of increased competition in the labor market on workers' wages using a panel dataset from Chinese industrial firms spanning 1998 to 2013. Employing OLS and IV regressions, we demonstrate that a decrease in employer concentration is significantly link…
Efficient glycerol electro-oxidation at an industrial-level current density
Study on anti-aging cultural paper using a combination of antioxidants and strengthening agents
Using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) for paper reinforcement and exploring the optimal dosage. • CMC combined with antioxidant to improve the anti-aging property of paper. • Compare the free radical scavenging ability of multiple antioxidants and explore the optimal dosage. Paper, as an important carrier of information, is widely used in fields such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc. Paper that serves to transmit information and preserve cultur…
Pathways and enhanced evaluation system for green low-carbon development across diverse Chinese regions
Background: Rapid economic growth in China has led to significant resource and environmental challenges, particularly in less economically developed regions. This study aims to identify effective strategies for achieving green, low-carbon development in these regions during the economic transition. Methods: We employed the Fuzzy-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) method to scrutinize the impact of economic, demographic, industrial, and …
Parallel Corpus Research and Target Language Representativeness: The Contrastive, Typological, and Translation Mining Traditions
This paper surveys the strategies that the Contrastive, Typological, and Translation Mining parallel corpus traditions rely on to deal with the issue of target language representativeness of translations. On the basis of a comparison of the corpus architectures and research designs of the three traditions, we argue that they have each developed their own representativeness strategies: (i) monolingual control corpora (Contrastive tradition), (ii) …
Translation Mining: Definiteness across Languages (A Reply to Jenks 2018)
We present a parallel corpus study that compares the distribution of German contracted/uncontracted articles and Mandarin bare nouns/demonstratives. Work by Schwarz (2009) and Jenks (2018) leads us to predict that German contracted articles pattern with Mandarin bare nouns and German uncontracted articles with Mandarin demonstratives. We show that these predictions are only partly borne out and argue for a more fine-grained typology of definitene…
Antecedents of Public Mental Health During the Covid-19 Pandemic: Mediation of Pandemic-Related Knowledge and Self-Efficacy and Moderation of Risk Level
Background: COVID-19 affects not only patients' physical health but also their mental health. For the general public, although their physical health may not be directly affected, their mental health may be affected by stress, anxiety, and social panic caused by COVID-19. Controlling the pandemic should focus on not only physical health but also mental health. For the general public, mental health is even more important, as good mental health at t…
