  • Christianity: A Phenomenological Approach

    Open Access•Michel Henry•ARTICLE•Journal of French and Francophone…•2018

Here I investigate the possibility of a phenomenological approach to Christianity, with the understanding that this would not be a matter of proposing an interpretation, but that such an “approach” would be able to lead directly to the heart of Christianity. I will say immediately that a phenomenology that would be able to undertake such a task is not the historical phenomenology that was born with Husserl. Only an ideal phenomenology that would …

  • Incarnation and the Problem of Touch

    Michel Henry•CHAPTER•Carnal Hermeneutics•2015

This chapter addresses the phenomenological foundation of incarnation—the condition of possessing flesh. The difference between the phenomenology of the body as object and the phenomenology of the body as lived points to what the author calls “revelation.” Overcoming separation, here the revelation of life and what it reveals are one and the same. The flesh is this unity and auto-revelation. The “original body” is not the mundane body of the worl…

    Michel Henry•BOOK•Le bonheur de Spinoza•2004•Cited by: 3

  • I Am the Truth: Toward a Philosophy of Christianity

    Michel Henry•BOOK•I Am the Truth•2002•Cited by: 4

A part of the “return to religion” now evident in European philosophy, this book represents the culmination of the career of a leading phenomenological thinker whose earlier works trace a trajectory from Marx through a genealogy of psychoanalysis that interprets Descartes’s “I think, I am” as “I feel myself thinking, I am.” In this book, Henry does not ask whether Christianity is “true” or “false.” Rather, what is in question here is what Christi…

  • Entretien avec Michel Henry

    Virginie Caruana, Michel Henry•ARTICLE•Philosophique•2000

On the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the death of Marx, has not the moment come at last to render an equitable judgment, of the type which only the passage of time allows us to formulate, on the man whom we do not know how to describe- philosopher, economist, historian, sociologist, politician, theoretician of the worker movement, reformer, revolutionary or prophet? And this judgment, which will take everything and examine it befor…

  • Productive Forces and Subjectivity; Socialism as Marx Saw It

    Open Access•Michel Henry•ARTICLE•Diogenes•1974

The ultimate contradiction of capitalism-in the words of Marx-can be understood and should be described as follows: capitalism is the value-system, its development and its maintenance (money being the external value); value is produced exclusively by work done by men and women; the fate of capital is thus the fate of this work-the subjective praxis of the individual. Inasmuch as the real process of production includes within it the accomplishment…
