  • Retrospective duration judgments of naturalistic events depend on memories of event boundaries

    Open Access•Winny W Y Yue, Jing Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Psychonomic Bulletin & Review•2026

Daily planning and goal-directed behavior rely on accurate judgments of the duration of past experience. However, retrospective duration judgments are often inaccurate. At the same time, our memory of these experiences transforms over time, with memory forgetting being a common occurrence. In this case, whether and how changes in episodic memory impact duration judgments? Here, participants watched videos depicting daily events with clear boundar…

  • Attitudinal Effects of Stimulus Co-occurrence and Stimulus Relations: Sleep Supports Propositional Learning Via Memory Consolidation

Open Access•Rui Jin, Tao Xia et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychological and…•2023

Adaptive behavior requires that organisms learn not only which stimuli tend to co-occur (e.g., whether stimulus A co-occurs with unpleasant stimulus B) but also how co-occurring stimuli are related (e.g., whether A starts or stops B). In a preregistered study ( N = 200 adults), we investigated whether sleep would promote adaptive evaluative choices requiring joint memories for stimulus co-occurrences and stimulus relations. Participants learned a…

  • Emotion regulation promotes forgetting of negative social feedback: Behavioral and EEG evidence

Hui Xie, Xuanyi Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2023

  • Mechanisms of a spotless self-image: Navigating negative, self-relevant feedback

Anastasia E Rigney, David M Schnyer et al.•ARTICLE•Self and Identity•2020

The present research investigated whether the differential recognition thresholds associated with memory for self-relevant negative feedback stem from processes occurring at encoding and/or suppression at retrieval. Socioemotional and monetary incentives offered before and after encoding did not significantly affect recognition thresholds for negative, self-relevant personality feedback (Studies 1–2). However, when presented before encoding took …
