  • Open science practices in the false memory literature

Open Access•Sera Wiechert, Phaedra Leistra et al.•ARTICLE•Memory•2024

In response to the replication crisis in psychology, the scientific community has advocated open science practices to promote transparency and reproducibility. Although existing reviews indicate inconsistent and generally low adoption of open science in psychology, a current-day, detailed analysis is lacking. Recognising the significant impact of false memory research in legal contexts, we conducted a preregistered systematic review to assess the…

  • Suppression-induced forgetting

Open Access•Sera Wiechert, Leonie Loewy et al.•ARTICLE•Memory•2023

Post-traumatic stress disorder is characterised by recurring memories of a traumatic experience despite deliberate attempts to forget (i.e., suppression). The Think/No-Think (TNT) task has been used widely in the laboratory to study suppression-induced forgetting. During the task, participants learn a series of cue-target word pairs. Subsequently, they are presented with a subset of the cue words and are instructed to think (respond items) or not…

  • Lying takes time

Kristina Suchotzki, Bruno Verschuere et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•2017•Cited by: 11•References: 2

Lie detection techniques are frequently used, but most of them have been criticized for the lack of empirical support for their predictive validity and presumed underlying mechanisms. This situation has led to increased efforts to unravel the cognitive mechanisms underlying deception and to develop a comprehensive theory of deception. A cognitive approach to deception has reinvigorated interest in reaction time (RT) measures to differentiate lies…

  • Seek and ye shall find

    Open Access•Gershon Ben-Shakhar, Gershon Ben‐shakhar et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Decision…•1998•References: 1

Expert clinicians were given batteries of psychodiagnostic test results (Rorschach, TAT, Draw-A-Person, Bender-Gestalt, Wechsler) to analyze. For half, a battery came along with a suggestion that the person suffers from Borderline Personality disorder, and for half, that battery was accompanied by a suggestion that he suffers from Paranoid Personality disorder. In Study 1, the suggestion was made indirectly, through a background story that preced…

  • Comparing the Utility of Two Procedures for Admitting Students to Liberal Arts

    Open Access•Gershon Ben-Shakhar, Gershon Ben‐shakhar et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1996

The present study applied a threshold utility model to assess the utility of adding a scholastic aptitude test to a selection system, based on achievement tests, designed to screen applicants for university studies in liberal arts. The threshold model was chosen because admitting students to liberal arts is characterized by an undefined quota. The present analysis avoided the exact estimation of the decision-maker's utility function and estimated…

  • Information Detection through Differential GSRs in Bedouins of the Israeli Desert

    Open Access•Sol Kugelma, Sol Kugelmass et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1973•Cited by: 1•References: 13

A series of studies was carried out to investigate further Israeli ethnic differences in psychophysiological functioning. Data obtained from Abu Rhabiah Bedouin samples confirmed the earlier findings of higher skin conductances and relatively low rate of GSR reactivity previously found in Israeli Bedouins. Among both Jewish and Bedouin samples, the level of reported formal education seemed systematically related to differential GSR reactivity
