  • Incorporating moral foundations into persuasive conversations

Open Access•Jiyoun Kim, Yuan Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Risk Research•2026

Public support for science is critical to managing emerging societal risks, particularly in contested scientific issues involving moral tensions. Incorporating moral concerns into persuasive messages may therefore represent a promising strategy for strengthening such support. Drawing on moral foundations theory, this study examined how moral framing shaped public support for science through two online experiments with U.S. adults across distinct …

  • A feasibility study of Augmented Reality Intervention for Safety Education for farm parents and children

Open Access•Kang Namkoong, John Leach et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Agriculture is one of the most dangerous U.S. occupations with high rates of injuries and fatalities, and especially more dangerous for children, having more young worker deaths than any other industry. Thus, safety education is essential in promoting safe and healthy working habits in agriculture. Augmented reality (AR) technology has great potential to enhance the effectiveness of safety education due to its high levels of system-user interacti…

  • The Power of Moral Words in Politicized Climate Change Communication

Jiyoun Kim, Saymin Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Communication•2023

Based on moral foundations theory and moral framing, through a between-subjects online experiment with a sample of adults residing in the U.S. (N = 407), we compared an individualizing moral frame to a binding moral frame in predicting individuals’ climate change mitigation policies support. Results show that, compared to a pro-environmental message employing binding moral framing, a message using individualizing moral framing leads individuals t…

  • Design Tools in Didactical Research

    Open Access•Kenneth Ruthven, Colette Laborde et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Researcher•2009•References: 21

European programs of design research have developed distinctive types of apparatus to structure and support the process of didactical design. This article illustrates how intermediate frameworks and design tools serve to mediate the contribution of grand theories to the design process, by coordinating and contextualizing theoretical insights on the epistemological and cognitive dimensions of a knowledge domain for the particular purposes of desig…

  • Evidence‐based practice in science education

Mary Ratcliffe, Hannah Bartholomew et al.•ARTICLE•Research Papers in Education•2005•Cited by: 3•References: 18

One aim of the Evidence‐based Practice in Science Education (EPSE) Network was to obtain a better understanding of the extent to which practitioners in science education recognise and make use of research findings in the course of their normal practice. The aim was realised through an interview and focus‐group study of views of practitioners on the research–practice interface. The sample included primary and secondary science teachers (including …

  • The Accumulation of Public Debt in Canada

Ron Kneebone, John Leach•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2001

Pierre Fortin's analysis of the causes of the increase in Canada's debt-to-output ratio is reconsidered. We find that the analysis hinges upon a number of supplementary decisions, and that reasonable choices give rise to results strikingly different from those obtained by Fortin. We also extend Fortin's analysis to examine the causes of debt accumulation by level of government. This exercise shows that the causes of debt accumulation are very dif…

  • Constructing Scientific Knowledge in the Classroom

    Open Access•R Driver, Hilary Asoko et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Researcher•1994•Cited by: 74•References: 20

The view that knowledge cannot be transmitted but must be constructed by the mental activity of learners underpins contemporary perspectives on science education. This article, which presents a theoretical perspective on teaching and learning science in the social setting of classrooms, is informed by a view of scientific knowledge as socially constructed and by a perspective on the learning of science as knowledge construction involving both ind…

  • Buxton Old Hall

    Robin Thornes, John Leach•ARTICLE•Archaeological Journal•1991

Behind the early eighteenth-century south front of the Old Hall Hotel are to be found the substantial remains of a tower house built by George Talbot, sixth earl of Shrewsbury and his wife Bess of Hardwick in 1572–73. The building, which was believed to have been demolished in 1670, survives behind eighteenth- and nineteenth-century alterations and additions. It is a tower house of double pile plan and four storeys in height, a description which …

  • Rational Speculation

    John Leach•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•1991

The stationary equilibrium of an overlapping generations economy in which agents trade a single asset is examined. If agents live for only two periods, the selling prices follow an identically and independently distributed process. If agents live for more than two periods, the selling prices follow a Markov process. An implication of the model is that price bubbles can occur in a stationary, rational expectations equilibrium.
