Michela Cozza, Ana Paula Lafaire et al.•ARTICLE•Culture and Organization•2025•References: 19

  • The leaderful quality of resistance within human-nonhuman encounters at work

    Open Access•Victor A Perez Moraga, Lynne Baxter•ARTICLE•Leadership•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 11

This paper shows the importance of more-than-human materialities in surfacing how affective processes of leaderful resistance emerge in the workplace. Employing a Spinozo-Deluzian approach to affect, we develop a new materialist analysis showing how more-than-human materialities resist in encounters with humans, generating flows of affect that lead. Based on a 9 months affective and virtual ethnography, we uncover two ways more-than-human matter …

  • The importance of rhythms for maintaining consent in diagnostic encounters to detect cervical cancer

    Open Access•Lynne Baxter, Catherine Wright•ARTICLE•Sociology of Health & Illness•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 15

Diagnostic encounters can be seen as complex socio-material processes. Drawing on the new materialist ideas of Barad, we studied how an innovative technology became part of the intra-actions between different human and non-human materialities in a cervical cancer diagnostic process. While researching the development of a technology intended to improve cervical cancer detection, we carried out a series of observations of diagnostic encounters invo…

  • Feminism in organization studies? It is a long story

    Open Access•Silvia Gherardi, Lynne Baxter•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2023•References: 1

This paper is an edited version of a conversation between Silvia Gherardi and Lynne Baxter at the Inaugural Distinguished Speaker Event of the Gender, Materialities, and Activism Network. We learn about the development of Professor Gherardi's interest in feminism, how it evolves and informs her wider work on organization studies and methodology, and how she supports community development while advancing her own work. Moreover, there is a percepti…

    Editorial Introduction

  • The importance of vibrant materialities in transforming affective dissonance into affective solidarity

    Open Access•Lynne Baxter•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2021•Cited by: 9•References: 20

Affective solidarity is important in resisting forms of gender, race, and sexual inequalities. Previous research has highlighted the role of affective dissonance in building affective solidarity, yet most of the literature has been anthropocentric in its discussion of affect. This paper contributes by showing the importance of vibrant forms of matter in inspiring and building affective solidarity. Using affective ethnographic method, the article …

  • A Hitchhiker's Guide to caring for an older person before and during coronavirus‐19

    Open Access•Lynne Baxter•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2020•References: 4

Coronavirus‐19 (COVID‐19) has reconfigured working lives with astonishing velocity. Older people have suffered the worst effects of the pandemic, with governments marginalizing or overlooking their needs. Women perform the majority of care for older people, often compromising their working lives and health. Yet in academic articles their voices are often filtered or aggregated in quantitative studies. Based on a weave of personal experiences and …

  • Tongue Sandwiches and Bagel Days

    Open Access•Lynne Baxter, C Hughes•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2004•Cited by: 6•References: 8

The substantive content of our paper is that of mind‐body dualism, which we explore through food metaphors. However, our primary aim is to use these food metaphors to explore the difficulties in going beyond dualistic thinking. We do this by focusing on dualism as a learnt state of being. Accordingly, and using an analysis of pedagogies of the everyday that takes account of particular communities of practice, we seek to demonstrate the (re)produc…
