Chronology of the Bronze Age Krotovo Site Vengerovo-2, Baraba Forest-Steppe
э. Носители средневолжско…
Analysis of Isotope Shifts for Collagen of Bone Samples from Stone Age Sites (Mesolithic — Eneolithic) of the Forest-steppe Volga Region
This work analyzes collagen isotope shifts in bone samples from Stone Age sites in the forest-steppe Volga region. The bones of herbivores and some omnivores (elk, beaver, horse, deer, marmot, bear, wolf, and fox) exhibit δ13C distributions ranging from -21,8 ‰ to -19,3 ‰, and δ15N from 2,7 ‰ to 6,8 ‰. This range is considered normal for a diet that includes both plant and meat and makes the samples reliable for absolute age determination. Elevat…
An Absolute Chronology of Mesolithic Sites of the Volga Forest-Steppe
Radiocarbon dates of Mesolithic sites in the forest-steppe zone of the Volga basin are collected and analyzed. The calibrated dates are 8600–8200 BC (Starotokskaya), 8000–7500 BC (Chekalino II), 7800–7500 (Chernovka I), 7100–6600 (Luzhki II), 8400–6200 (Kochkari I), 7200–6500 (Syezzheye), and 9900–8800 plus 7300–6500 BC (Gora Mayak aka Sidelkino II). The comparison of these estimates with the typology of tools suggests the direction and chronolog…

Inner Asian Agropastoralism Within the Mongol Empire
Agropastoralism has been a widespread subsistence strategy in Central Asia from prehistory to the present. While significant research has aimed at understanding past agropastoral communities in the region, reconstructing a generalized economic model remains challenging due to the complex topographic and ecological conditions, as well as its social and political variability. It is likely that subsistence strategies were flexible and adapted to loc…

Testing the Sample Preparation Method and Oxygen Isotopic Analysis of Tooth Enamel for the Reconstruction of the Birth Seasonality of Ovicaprines (the Case of Teeth from Istykskaya Cave, Eastern Pamir…
Cyclic variations of δ18O along the growth line of M2 and M3 molars provide information about the seasonality of enamel formation and thereby about reproductive seasonality in animals, taking into account the time of tooth eruption and full enamel maturation. Determination of birth seasonality of small ruminants is relevant to the reconstruction of pastoralist strategies. Two peaks of reproductive activity per year are one of the most reliable in…

Chronology of Archaeological Complexes with Geometric Microliths in Northern Mongolia
Upper Palaeolithic microlithic complexes in Northeast Asia are usually included in the spectrum of non-geometric industries. Mongolia, which is considered a possible crossroads of Middle and Upper Paleolithic migration routes due to its environmental and geographic conditions, is the only exception in this vast region. The Tolbor cluster of sites in the Middle Selenga Basin contains lithic complexes with trapezes and segments. We define the chron…
