  • The TFP Channel of Credit Supply Shocks

Nadav Ben Zeev•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2023

Recent work stresses a potentially important relation between credit supply shocks and aggregate TFP based on factor misallocation. I take three steps to examine this relation. First, using state-of-the-art credit supply shock and aggregate TFP measures, I show that an adverse credit supply shock has a weak and very short-lived effect on aggregate TFP. Second, using firm-level data, I show that firm-level capital stock responses to an adverse cre…

  • Chronicle of A War Foretold

    Open Access•Nadav Ben Zeev, Evi Pappa•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2017•Cited by: 7•References: 24

We identify news shocks to US defence spending as the shocks that best explain future movements in defence spending over a five‐year horizon and are orthogonal to current defence spending. Our identified shocks, though correlated with the Ramey (2011) news shocks, explain a larger share of macroeconomic fluctuations and produce significant demand effects. News about increases in defence spending induces significant and persistent increases in out…

  • Flexible Supply of Apprenticeship in the British Industrial Revolution

Open Access•Nadav Ben Zeev, Joel Mokyr et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Economic History•2017•Cited by: 8•References: 33

We use annual information on apprenticeships in England between 1710-1805 to estimate the dynamic supply-responsiveness in this market in the presence of the increasingly powerful technological shocks as the Industrial Revolution proceeded apace. Using both an Instrumental Variable method and a dynamic Vector Autoregression framework (VAR) system to identify the long-run response functions, we find evidence of an elastic supply, sufficiently high…
