  • Genetic differentiation among the three Hindu low caste groups of Malda district, West Bengal, India

    Open Access•Sanghita Banerjee, M K Das et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1992•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Three descendants of Koch, Indo-Mongolid populations, have been studied for their 12 genetic markers of blood group, red cell enzyme and serum protein. Distribution of their phenotype and allele frequencies shows some variants apart from their common alleles. Analysis on genetic material reveals very low differentiation coefficient (GST) value for the total population, and in the distance measure the Poliya and the Tiyor stand close to each other…

  • Shipping routes, ice cover and year-round navigation in the Canadian Arctic

    Open Access•B Dey, Balaram B Dey•ARTICLE•Polar Record•1981•References: 10

Past forecasts by geologists of potentially large oil and natural gas reserves in the North American Arctic (eg, Prudhoe Bay, the Mackenzie delta, and the Canadian Arctic islands) are coming closer to reality. Results from Canmar (Canadian Marine Drilling Ltd of Calgary) drill ships working in the southern Beaufort Sea continue to support the prediction of considerable hydrocarbon deposits in this area. The most significant discovery, gas amounti…

  • Red-cell enzyme study among some migrant tribal populations in the Andaman Islands

Sudipta Bhattacharyya, S K Bhattacharyya et al.•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1980

  • Orbital Sensing of Mackenzie Bay Ice Dynamics

    Open Access•B Dey•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1980

Satellite images are a useful tool in the study of sea ice dynamics. The results of studies using satellite images of Mackenzie Bay during the break-up and freeze-up periods are presented in maps and tables. These indicate important temporal variations in the processes of bay ice break-up and freeze-up. Though the Mackenzie Bay break-up proceeds from the south and from the north, the southern melt rate is faster because of an influx of warm water…

  • Seasonal and Annual Variations in Ice Cover in Baffin Bay and Northern Davis Strait

    Open Access•B Dey•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•1980•Cited by: 1•References: 7

The sea ice cover in Baffin Bay and northern Davis Strait is at a maximum in March and at a minimum in September. It depletes rapidly in July and August and grows rapidly during October and November. More annual variations were noticed during periods of ice cover depletion than during ice cover growth periods. The paper presents a sea ice forecast model which is based on annual ice cover depletion and growth data 1968‐79 and which should be usefu…

  • Application of satellite images for monitoring snow-line in the Yukon and Northwest Territories

    Open Access•B Dey, H Moore et al.•ARTICLE•Polar Record•1979•References: 4

Each year, more and more of Canada's vast northern territories are being explored in the search for untapped mineral resources. But the area is covered with snow for seven to ten months a year, which hampers most activities connected with mineral exploration. Snow cover also affects changes in albedo and temperature and hydrologic forecasting. The surface hydrology in most areas is only active for two to five months a year. Historically, snow hyd…

  • The Use of Satellite Imagery for Monitoring Ice Break-up along the Mackenzie River, N.W.T

    Open Access•B Dey, H Moore et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1977

The usefulness of satellite imagery for providing comprehensive information concerning break-up of river ice is discussed. For the years 1975-77, dates of break-up along the Mackenzie River derived from satellite images correlated well with the dates noted at six ground stations in the valley. It is suggested that satellite imagery could also be used to study ice break-up along rivers where little or no hydrometeorological data are regularly coll…
